Will not stay there again. We stayed in sugar beach room 304 for 7 nights in March 2022, managed by Vacasa. Room 304 bathroom is dirty; it has black mold on the ceiling, and tub area not clean. My son, who always check bathroom first, said "nasty" first time he looked at the bathroom. All nonstick pot/pans were badly scratched and therefore unusable. Beach chairs were rusty, old and dirty; it was embarrassing to take them to beaches. The cleaning lady only left us 3 garbage bags (for a 7 day stay) and other cleaners won't give us extra one. The towels were wet when we used them the first night and we had to wash and dry them by ourselves. The bed sheets had hairs on it and was disgusting, so we spent our first night wash them and dry them well into the night. The washer and dryer were very small so we had to wash them in many loads, then we ran out of laundry detergent. The bathroom fan was very loud (like an old tank) and it must be turned on when operating the dryer, so we didn't have good night sleep. Whenever the fan (together with light)was turned on the bathroom basically was unusable because of the loud noise so we took showers in dark. The carpet was old and dirty. One of the corner lamp didn't work. Room wasn't sealed properly from hallway since there was a big gap at the bottom of the entry door and you can see the daylight from inside the room. The room we stayed (sugar beach resort 304) was by the highway and was very noisy from the traffic. The lawn care guys, they took three days to do the entire lawn care, front, back, sides, and they do it in the morning and generated a lot of noise affecting our sleep. The bedroom has one air conditioning vent, and it became hot during night sleep if all the doors and windows were closed to reduce the noise. There are a row of windows in the bedroom but they're facing the hallway so need to be closed for quiet night sleeping, then then room gets hot. The people in the room directly above us got up every day very early and started making noise right away, especially they would open and close their old sliding doors dozens of time before we wake up, which sounded like thunder rumbling. The sound insulation is poor and we could hear pretty much every noise they made (like moving pots and pans, dishes, etc.), and woke us up. The hot tub (only one) is full of people during the best time of the day (after 6pm), and it closes down at 9:30pm; we can't use it. And also most of the time it's either heater is broken or jets not working. This is not what I expected for a $385 per night. I thought it was a resort as it claimed and in the photos they look nice, but in reality we felt like a cheap motel room. I, and my family were very unhappy and very disappointed. This is a much worse experience than we visited...
Read moreHello fellow Maui Travelers,||Wanting to share our recent experience which was disheartening. We booked with VRBO Sugar Beach Resort, unit 134 Maui, Hawaii. This unit was managed by Vacasa. ||My husband and myself recently spent a month at Sugar Beach Resort. My family has stayed in different units always at Sugar Beach Resort many times, 28 to be exact over the years. We had our first unpleasant experience on this beautiful Island at our favorite resort. Unit # 134 was well equipped, the community bar b q grills were well kept, cleaned daily and we used them frequently and the miles of white sandy beach to walk daily is why we have always stayed there. We booked while we were in Maui last year through Vacasa/ VRBO. While we love the location and the beautiful beach in front and being ground level is amazing, the condo itself had a few issues.| |The screen door that leads to the ocean was broken laying off the tracks when we arrived, there was 3 areas of the living room ceiling that had paint peeling and handing down, also had cracks running through the ceiling from side to side, the patio door curtains to the beach were extremely filthy, the dryer put so much lint into the shower even with the vent running as per the instructions you had to wash down the wall before showering, and the bathroom sink was clogged leaving it unusable most of the time. ||We made 3 phone calls to Vacasa’s help/ support desk, 3 visits to the office at Sugar Beach where the ladies were shocked each time for lack of reply. The Sugar beach office asked us for pictures in an email which we did. During our 30 days we were there, not a phone call or visit from anyone at Vacasa to help with the issues. Most of the issues could have been resolved in a day. We understand it is expensive to rent in Maui and that Sugar Beach is an older complex, that doesn’t excuse the lack of response from Vacasa. 3 weeks have passed since we came home and still not response from Vacasa. I have also not found our review of our trip posted as of yet, warning others of the issues. Please know we love Maui, but the experience was not as we had expected during our month stay at Sugar Beach Resort. ||Mahalo! —...

If I could give negative stars, I would. This was not just a bad massage—it was an appalling, humiliating, and deeply disturbing experience that should serve as a public warning.
We booked a beachfront couples massage in Maui and instead were dumped in a garden area with people walking by, no privacy, and no semblance of professionalism. I, a woman, was told to undress in public under a thin, translucent sheet—in full view of strangers. My husband was told to do the same. No changing rooms, no curtains, no dignity.
The “massage tables” were covered in reused, stained, foul-smelling sheets that felt like they’d been pulled off a beach towel rack from the previous week. Hygiene was nonexistent. The staff clearly had no real training—my massage was so aggressive and careless it triggered sciatic nerve pain I’ve never experienced before, despite years of massages elsewhere.
We booked a couples massage and were not even placed together. Afterward, drenched in oil and discomfort, we asked for a shower or any place to change. The answer? No showers. No changing rooms. Dress in public under the same dirty sheets.
And to add insult to injury—they charged my card twice.
This is not a wellness business—it’s a scam operation masquerading as a luxury service. They violate basic health codes, ethical standards, and customer safety. This place should be investigated, shut down, and barred from operating until it understands the meaning of professionalism, hygiene, and basic human decency.
Avoid at all costs. You’re better off rubbing sand on yourself by the ocean than...
