I attended a 2hr hat burning workshop. I overall enjoyed it, but for the amount of money I paid, I would have appreciated more instruction. The staff were not very good at explaining what we were doing or the steps. The first person came up and just told us to draw our design on the sticky paper. We were not given any instructions on details or how to use the pens (a light touch is required) or given tips like if you put details lines, it will burn them away before you can burn them on the hat. A second staff member did explain to use a soft touch to someone else at my table. Then the instruction of how to use the burning tool was very safety focused: "don't get your nails past this point" and did not include any tips on how to apply the tool to the hat. There was not much instruction on how to make lines or tips to use the tool beyond "don't leave it on too long or it will burn a hole in the hat". I understand it's a short amount of time, but the instruction was not clear at all. All the tips I learned, I picked up from my own experience vs help from the staff.
It also would have been good to know in advance that black hats do not burn the same and told before choosing that the white lines in pictures was a separate step.
It would also have been helpful if the description of the event had details like bringing a design if you had something in mind. I would have prepared a design if I would have known I could... the short amount of time was stressful to think about what we wanted...
Read moreI went to AR Workshop with a few friends, and we had a great experience. Kelsey had all of the materials ready to go, provided detailed and easy-to-understand instructions, and offered suggestions when asked about colors and techniques. We had ample space and time to complete our projects. The shop is clean, has many beautiful examples to reference, and Kelsey creates a friendly and inviting environment. it was fun, our projects were beautiful (and speaking for myself—I am not a crafty or artistic person), and I highly recommend checking it out!
There are tons of projects to choose from, crafts that would be appropriate for all ages, and there are options for a wide range of abilities. Projects were completed and ready to take home that day. They also have a DIY candle-making bar and some beautiful crocheted projects that caught my eye as well. I’m looking forward to...
