I have been wanting to try this place since I saw that Katina Eats Kilos has done an eating challenge here & I saw it was only 20 mins from me.
My husband said he was craving BBQ & I remembered this place! & thank goodness, I did!!!
We ordered online for pickup & the estimated time was 45 minutes & it was ready when we got there!
We ordered a 1/4 sheet pan with brisket, ribs, & sausage. It comes with pickles, a smaller side of Trax Slaw & Texas toast. We chose mac & cheese and the new charros beans with bacon as our sides. For sauces, we got Old Yeller, Red Hog, & Mccordsville Hot. We got the Smokeshack & Derailed hot sauces too. We added on a side of hush puppies because my husband loves them. We also ordered a side of beer mustard.
We checked the containers before we left & we had everything we ordered & a couple of extra sauces we weren’t expecting!
Once we got home, we tried everything together, starting with the Trax slaw! It was perfectly vinegary & creamy, as well as, nicely seasoned.
Next, the mac & cheese! They use my favorite pasta (cavatappi)! The flavor was so good & it was super creamy.
The charro beans & bacon has this AMAZING smokey flavor & richness. The beans still had some bite so they made sure they weren’t an overcooked mush mess, which we appreciated.
The hush puppies had pieces or corn & some kind of pepper (I thought jalapeño, but could’ve been poblano). It came with this side of gravy, which we weren’t expecting. My husband loved these, while hush puppies aren’t really my thing, but the gravy dip made them 1000x better for me.
The Texas toast was crispy on one side & soft and buttery on the other. It was seasoned great & even better when I dipped it in the hush puppy gravy.
Once we got to the meats, we did have to reheat them slightly, but we had a 20 minute car ride home & however long it took for us to try all of the sides before we got to them. That was an our fault thing. No problem a couple of seconds in the microwave can’t fix.
We started with the sausage, which was cut into bite sized pieces, when we go back, I’m going to request them to not do that. We just prefer to do that ourselves & it honestly didn’t affect anything except maybe heat retention. The snap & juiciness of these sausages are INSANE! By themselves, they were the best sausage I’ve ever had. We then dipped in the beer mustard (we had ordered 1 side & got 2 by mistake) & THIS WAS THE BEST BITE ON THE ENTIRE TRAY!!!! The beer mustard was such a depth of flavors! At first taste, it was sweet, almost like a honey mustard, & then the mustard kick really came through. It wasn’t super spicy or anything, but it was just so developed with its flavor profile.
The ribs were FALL OFF THE BONE tender. We started plan & LOVED the seasonings & smokey flavor. We then tried with all sauces! Red Hog was my favorite for the ribs, while my husband liked the Mccordsville Hot better.
The brisket, we got mixed for our preference, & it was exactly what we asked for. Without sauce, it was buttery and seasoned to the nines! I preferred it with Mccordsville Hot & my husband with Red Hog.
For sauces: Unless you’re a child or you just really like super sweet BBQ sauces, I wouldn’t waste my time with Old Yeller.
Red Hog & Mccordsville Hot are equally delicious & pair well with different things depending on preferences of meat & spice levels.
Smokeshack was probably the most disappointing part of our meal. We love jalapeño & poblano peppers, as well as hot sauce, but it was just flat out not good.
Derailed, however, was delicious & rather spicy, which we both love! If you like spice, you’ve GOT to try this!!!
All & all, this place is AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! The fact that out of everything we ordered, the only things we wouldn’t order again are 2 sauces, I think we can live with that.
1000000/10 WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
Thanks Katina Eats Kilos for putting this place...
Read moreWe had friends who suggested Trax. We are finicky about BBQ We want great flavor, moist and tender meat, good bark, nice smoke ring, and great flavor. Check, check, check, check, check, and double check. Add to this A+ report, uniquely flavored sides and you have a big winner.
My wife and I ordered different items and compared. She ordered1/2 slab of ribs and I ordered brisket. I knew this was a real deal when they asked if I wanted fatty or lean brisket or in between. As a first timer I went with in between. The assortment of sauces are properly labelled with a bit of Carolina influence.
The meat was well smoked and could be eaten without sauce. Sauce is the frosting on a delicious meat. We both chose the broccoli salad and were pleasantly surprised by the feta. The potato salad had a dill flavored dressing that was great. The hush puppies were well seasoned and not greasy. Complementary sides of homemade pickles and texas toast were both great. Thle amount of food was ample and we both took enough food home for another meal.
The ambience is appropirate to a dive BBQ joint. If you want quiet, white table cloth service you should go somewhere else of get takeout and get BBQ sauce on your own table cloth. The service is self. You walk in, order, get your own drinks, silver ware, and sauces. A pager alerts you to pick up your order. You bus your table and wish you could have...
Read moreI was just at the Sample Indiana festival. The event was good but venue seriously sucked. The brewery decided there was no difference between a Men's room and Women's bathroom so there was only one line inside. I thought Scarlett Lane owned the entire building so I went over to ask them. They claimed Trax controlled the bathrooms. I went back to Trax side to talk to manager. His reasoning was go outside if I didn't want to wait in one line. There's clearly marked Men's and Women's bathrooms. They told me and my date to leave the building instead of enforcing the gender specific bathrooms. We went back over to Scarlett Lane side to find a friend that accompanied us. He had a full beer he paid for and the Scarlet Lane staff told him to leave with us. He had nothing to do with my argument over the bathrooms. He was kicked out for no reason and the staff had patrons literally pushing him out the door. They physically pushed him and he wasn't involved at all except he rode with us. The Trax owner stood outside his door shouting at us as we walked to our car to ensure we didn't come back in. No problem! I'll never come back. I'm filed complaints with health department, but they did nothing even though health code requires sanitary trash recepticles in a female bathroom. Honestly Scarlet Lane staff was never friendly anyway and the beer was never that great. They seem to cater to a select crowd...
