I’ve ordered twice from here and both times were to-go. We all know that to-go orders are nowhere near as good at home as they are in restaurant, but when it comes to this place the food is amazing even at home when it’s somewhat cooled off and doesn’t have the ambiance of the restaurant! I can only imagine how much better it is dining in. I will make sure we do so relatively soon!
The portion sizes are great and the quality of the food is top notch. Everything is fresh and handmade, you can taste the difference. We ordered a handful of kids meals, all of which were great. The Parrillada, which is probably the greatest combination of multiple meats rice and cheese I’ve ever had for Mexican food. 10/10 for the Parrillada. The queso is a true runny white queso that’s smooth and flavorful. 9/10 for queso. The in-house chips are perfectly crisp and nicely salted. Perfect corn flavor combo with the queso. The salsa is very well blended and the flavor profile is extremely well balanced with the different ingredients, it’s super fresh too. Not an over-abundance of onion as restaurants sometimes can have. 9/10 for salsa.
Both times the food has been delicious! I’ve been living in McCordsville for 3 years and have never come to this Mexican restaurant, I regret not trying this place sooner! I’m a big food critic and often not an easy one… and for the quality and kind of Mexican food you can get in the greater Indianapolis area, this one is one of the better ones you can find! Have I had better Mexican food? Absolutely. But better around the east side of Indianapolis? No. Not at all. This is my new staple for...
Read moreUpdate 20201228 MAJOR Front casher service chaos. 1. Did not provide full $ return change for bill payment 2. Did not serve customers in order of arrival 3. Was served 2 groups later than would have been expected. 4. Casher could not accept my payment immediately, something about my order was taken by someone else in the cash register. 5. Did not provide tortilla chips in the order (but did provide salsa) for pickup order. 6. Had to go back to the kitchen to get my bill change.
They weren't even busy.
I hope the food is still good.
Why is it the front lobby service quality so inconsistent the past 3 visits?
The prior 2 visits the cashiers were NOT very friendly.
Update 20200410 In these pandemic days, Los Agaves is great comfort food, very tasty and plentiful carryout - and they included chips & salsa! Kudos to the cashier and carrier, they were the only 2 in the lobby pleasant, smiling and grateful. Everyone else (customers, delivery pickup) in the lobby were grumpy and didn't even 'give a grunt'. Los Agaves is tops for Mexican food in this locale!
Orig: 5 stars because this is only the second restaurant in memory where the younger aged hostesses and server were courteous, friendly, attentive, high service quality and made genuine frequent direct eye contact even after the bill was paid. These traits in younger let alone all staff are rarities so they must have been well selected, trained and motivated. Plus the food was typically tasty, as normal. Keep up the good work, the expectation bar is set...
Read moreDuring the pandemic, we came in late in the evening on Christmas Eve as we had a chaotic day and decided to stop here since they were still open and there were very few cars in the parking lot. All the members in our family with the exception of one with a medical lung related concern wore a mask as suggested. That member was asked to put a mask on, and explained he has a valid medical exception. They agreed to seat us. However, we were sat in the draftiest corner with only one table in the area available for use. It was the equivalent of a time out area as if they were punishing us to dine in without wearing a mask for 15 steps to a table inside of a large restaurant with only 4 other tables in use right before closing.
This was uncalled for. We asked to move and it became an argument. The descrimination that we experienced was exponential. We will not be utilizing our money to support this restaurant and we have been there often prior to covid but had been staying in. This was not a pleasant experience. I would advise that no matter your stance on masks or no masks, human beings deserve better than how los agaves treated our family, especially...
