Edit addition: just a heads up Michelle is great about not having phones or smartwatches in the yoga class. Forgot that detail. Her classes get waitlisted so if you get in, you’re lucky!
Mind you all the instructors here in Medford are amazing that I’ve taken like AC and others!
Becoming more of a regular yogini again after a hiatus, going around 3-4 times a week. Every instructor is fabulous at Medford (and Fresh Pond). Parking is fine here, the setup is streamlined to get blocks, weights, etc. Classes are often packed, which is imo a sign it's popular. I signed up for the membership (which you can get a teacher discount if you are one btw). Being part of this yoga studio is great--you can join any CorePower studio. Everyone is very welcoming, it's awesome!
This morning I just did Michelle's C2 class (she was a sub but she was incredible) I love Michelle's high energy classes--she knows the poses well and gives you perfect reminders "Where is your focus right now?" or tells and shows you exactly how to align your body so you do the pose properly.
Today's class had 4 rows packed, yet I could clearly hear her instructions all the way in the back. I was impressed I could easily follow along. I wish I could capture her energy in a bottle and bring it with me too!
Her sculpt classes are killer, too. I am slowly building up strength again, thanks to her but this will take time.
I had Alie's class for sculpt, too and she's also incredible. She is kind, and somehow removes any inhibitions I had about strength. I believe she was the first strength class I started so it was nice to hear her remind us that this is our class, we do what we need to do, continue the reps, take a rest, if we need to leave let her know with a wave or a thumbs up if we're getting water so she knows we're ok. The sculpt classes are intensity 'high' for a reason.
Cell phones in the yoga studio: While this part is the fault of the customers, I do wish there was a way to get rid of phones in the yoga studio. I have seen customers text, doom scroll, etc before (during class even!!) and right after our practice. Are they taking pics or videos where I happen to be in them? How would I even know? :-/
Anywho...great studio and passionate instructors! Overall the customers are nice as a domino effect of the instructors. :) Thanks for giving us some peace through practice in the chaos we may sometimes...
Read moreI just walked out of what has to be one of my worst experiences at Corepower over the last 8 years I’ve been taking classes. I took a 9 am Saturday sculpt class that was a disaster from the start. It began when the instructor let in 2 walk-ins when the class was clearly already jam-packed. She then started the class 5 minutes late which led to going thru the rest of the class at breakneck speed, which, of course, in 95 degree heat, in a cramped room, with heavy weights can be dangerous. I quickly realized I had done this same flow with the same playlist with the same instructor a couple weeks ago!! For being one of the most expensive class packs in the city, they should at least be switching up the flow every once in a while! Her class had no rhythm or purpose. Some movements she held for insanely long amounts of time, while others she barely let us hold for more than a second. Some of the moves I found to be a safety hazard - Russian twists with a HEAVY weight, feet up and a lift in between at a fast pace? That’s insane. By the end (I had to leave at 10:05 even though the class was still going) everyone was checked out. Barely anyone was doing the movements, people were talking amongst themselves. It was a joke. While I have had some good experiences with other instructors at this studio, would highly recommend avoiding this...
Read moreThe class overall was very good, nice fast pace and really felt the energy in the room. Although the thing that ruined it for me was the end of the class. This was me and my friends first time at core power so inevitably we were clueless as to how it worked. When the class came to an end our instructor told everyone “if you need to leave, leave.” but again, it being our first time here, we did not know whether a new class had begun or if this was something extra. As we were packing our stuff the instructor proceeds to speed towards us and raises her voice to tell us to leave (we had a lot of things to carry out and not enough hands so it took us a minute) and instead of explaining or helping she started to kick my friends mat and picked up her phone and started moving stuff around telling us to hush and “just leave” (we had not been talking). As a result of her moving our stuff around mindlessly my friends water bottle spilt and she looked at us like it had been our fault. On top of this there was no instruction on how to clean or return mats but the expectation that everyone knew. Needless to say we will not be returning to this location. Very unprofessional and...
