Torbert Macdonald Park — Attraction in Medford

Macdonald Park is a real riverside gem. It's a great mix of walking/bike paths and natural habitat so close to the city. It has been an outdoor oasis during Covid. It hosts a surprising amount of wildlife, especially birds. I've seen hawks and even bald eagles, goldfinches in summer, egrets, herons, redwing blackbirds, ducks, and geese, etc. Robins and cardinals are back now. Rabbits are everywhere in summer. Great walking paths through grasslands along the river. There is a tall lookout structure to climb, a dock on the river, benches, small waterfront picnic area, gorgeous scenery and big beautiful trees to marvel. It is a vast escape to relax and more open now and safer then ever before. It is located next the State Police office and near Wegmans on rt. 16. The pathways connect to go around the river and over rt's 16 & 28 so you can walk over to Ten Hills, Assembly Row or along the path by McGlynn school to...

I (plus two pups) stopped by around 11am on a Monday and found the area quiet and peaceful. I was able to find 2-hour parking on Commercial Street, though street parking is limited.

It was a peaceful stroll with lots of open space and lovely views. It’s true there are quite a few geese, but we kept our distance and had no issues.

Pups were leashed and made sure to clean up after them. There are a few trash containers available...
