Macdonald Park is a real riverside gem. It's a great mix of walking/bike paths and natural habitat so close to the city. It has been an outdoor oasis during Covid. It hosts a surprising amount of wildlife, especially birds. I've seen hawks and even bald eagles, goldfinches in summer, egrets, herons, redwing blackbirds, ducks, and geese, etc. Robins and cardinals are back now. Rabbits are everywhere in summer. There is a tall lookout structure to climb, a dock on the river, benches, small waterfront picnic area, gorgeous scenery and big beautiful trees to marvel. It is a vast escape to relax and more open now and safer then ever before. It is located next the State Police office and near Wegmans on rt. 16. It was a peaceful stroll with lots of open space and lovely views. It’s true there are quite a few geese, but we kept our distance and had no issues.
