I have not been to the children's museum in Memphis for a very long time and there have been some changes since I was there. However, I was disappointed to see how many things don't work correctly. It really needs some maintenance. For example, the utters on the cow are hanging loose and have no screws except one. While watching my grandchildren playing that area attempted to fix it, but it was impossible. The egg "dispenser" for the chicken doesn't dispense - maybe because the eggs are not in the right place and there are no instructions, or if there are, I didn't see them. My grandson was very disappointed because the tube didn't work. I know it has to be operated correctly to work, but it seems that someone could check the computer driving it on a fairly regular basis to reset it. I heard several other parents and grandparents trying to explain to their kids that it was broken. Very disappointing. I could listen some other things, but they are all essentially about lack of maintenance. All that being said, it is still a wonderful asset to Memphis and a great place to take kids that's not exorbitantly expensive. My grants particularly enjoyed riding the carousel, both the ones who have never done it who live out of town and the ones who live here and have a family membership. For people coming out of town with kids, I would still recommend it. To the museum management, I would look into addressing some of the fixable issues. Most of them do not look like they would be extremely expensive or time-consuming. They just...
Read moreLet me start my review with a statement: my son is a Saint Jude patient, so my whole family gets in free to the museum. I feel like if I had to pay for my son, husband and myself to enter we might have given a lower review. For free admission, it's a great way to let your kids burn some energy running around the different exhibits. I'm not sure I would feel that it was worth the price of admission if I had paid. There are a couple really cool exhibits, and a bunch that are mediocre, and a few that are pretty weak. The outdoor play area is fairly nice, as are the basketball courts. We've only visited in the wintertime, so we haven't tried their little water park but it looks fun for kids. My son loves to pretend to drive the 2 fire trucks, the police car and motorcycle, and the plane. He absolutely LOVES the little supermarket area they have set up. He enjoys pushing his cart around to "shop" and then actually getting to check out his items on the scanner and get a receipt. I was disappointed in the lack of direction in some of the exhibits. For instance- the "green screen" exhibit has a ton of cute costumes and a stage but no real direction on how to use it. Or the farm area- it has a bunch of stuff set out but no real direction for the kids on what they're doing or supposed to be learning. That being said, my son also loves the play area that's set up near the front, and the pneumatic tubes are fun too. All in all, it's a good place to take younger kids (2-8ish) for a couple hours of...
