Update: 8/2024
After learning more about bleaching and lightening my own hair, I successfully achieved evenly toned ash blonde/white hair with no brassiness, without using bleach. Unfortunately, this stylist was unable to lift and tone my hair to the desired shade, leaving patches of brassiness. He also seemed unclear about the purpose of toners, essentially asking me to tone my hair at home with an expensive colored shampoo. If I had to handle the toning myself after he lightened my hair, it makes me question the value of the service. I expected a double process to include toning, so I was perplexed when asked to do it myself. In hindsight, he should have declined the service if he couldn't achieve the desired result. His poor work was evident, and he should have been upfront about his expertise with afro-textured hair. Now realizing how hair is properly lifted and treated, I should have walked away when he suggested I tone my hair at home with a $35, 8 ounce bottle of colored shampoo that was meant to maintain color after a service, and not act as a substitute for professional toner. No stylist should send a client home to finish a service they should have completed themselves or outright declined.
Original Review
Did a consult with one of the stylist and discussed the goal for my hair, followed his suggestions to get my previously bleached tips the right color at home, prior to him bleaching my hair for the first time. Was excited about the possibility of getting my hair the right color, but unfortunately, I left with brassy under processed hair, the pigmented shampoo I had used on my previously ash blonde ends to turn it silver/white, did not and in no way would work on brassy peachy colored hair that I ended up with. I did reach out to the stylist to explain the results, and he asked me to use the pigmented shampoo, which I had explained that I did as he instructed, with no results and he seemed to overlook that. When he followed up again and I explained in detail that his suggestion did not work and I was not happy, I did not get a response back.
My hair is dark brown, but a professional colorist has achieved a very light ash blonde color which is the least I expected after the consult with this stylist. My hair has been very light ash blonde on more than one occasion, so its...
Read moreUPDATE: stylist Yvonne Rene reached out to me after reading this review and went above and beyond to offer a fix-up service at no cost. I really appreciated the initiative to try and make things right. I don't feel this experience should reflect poorly on all Epic employees. Seems like a stylist just had a bad day
Original review: I had an unexpectedly bad experience at this salon. I had booked another stylist but got rescheduled with Riley who I was told specialized in mullets (and I wanted a shag + mullet). Please keep in mind I drove 3 hours from Arkansas to go to this salon. I'd very much like for this salon to do something about the horrible haircut I received.
Appointment started out great, seemed like we were on the same page. Highlights turned out good. But the haircut was extremely disappointing.
I had explained multiple times I wanted a shag/mullet short layers, like really short layers - in line with my bangs. I didn't want that "bell" 🔔 shape you can get with short curly hair. Riley kept saying she was afraid to cut them too short, but that's literally what I was asking for. I wanted a more alternative look. She went back in a couple times to add some layers to the front and sides after I had asked multiple times, but I wanted layers ALL AROUND. I told her so many times what I wanted
The layers look terrible in the back. It's like she only cut the side layers and forgot to even them out in the back. The whole cut is incredibly uneven too. I don't know what the plan was
After 2 times of asking for shorter layers, I could tell Riley was ready to be done so I didn't push any more. It was getting awkward. I was there seven hours, paid $300, and cried on the way home because I was so disappointed in the haircut. I don't know if I needed to push harder or if Riley just didn't want to give me the haircut that I wanted, but I'm extremely unsatisfied
The photos show the uneven cut, as well as the lack of short layers in the back. I told her specifically I wanted to avoid a bell shape, and that's exactly what I got. I'm still so upset about this. What a...
