Read morePurchased fish on Friday 2 March 2018 (4 fish costing $25.33). I was happy with my purchase but when I prepared & cooked the fish, on eating both my daughter & I agreed that the fish wasn’t fresh at all. I went back to the market in Saturday with the receipt & explained to the fishmonger the problem. At first he asked if I wanted my money back or more fish. I took a look at the fish (snappers) & they didn’t look fresh so opted to get my money back. He told me to see the cashier. When I went to the Customer Service Counter, the female immediately said they couldn’t refund my money & tried to distance herself. I asked to speak to the manager but she stated the manager was at lunch (I believe she was the manager). I walked back over to the fish isle & then the said lady brought a security guard with her. After explaining to him & her again my concerns, she told me to bring the fish back. I explained I bought 4 & had started to eat 2 (my daughter & I) & threw them out because it clearly was off. I said we had two left (cooked) & did she want me to bring those in. I duly went home & brought to her the other two fish that was cooked. Eventually she called another colleague over who weighed the cooked fish & said they could only give me back the money for the weight of the two cooked fish. The fish weighed 1lb & I was refunded $6.99. The snappers uncooked & were being sold at $6.99 per pound. I was so disgusted & said I would take this matter further. There customer service needs a lot to be desired. I will never go back there again but have no intention to just accept their behavior. For info, last year I bought can product & when I checked the date it was over a year old. People be care & check dates on products. Angry &...
Read moreI must state up front that I know the owners of this store (who are really nice, by the way). However, I'm not trying to leave a glowing review, but an honest one.
This store caters primarily to a large hispanic customer base, so don't go to the store expecting a Kroger competitor. Many products and the smell of the live fish tanks clearly indicate this is an international market, not a traditional grocery store. Do expect a large variety of international foods, mexican, asian, etc. with an especially captivating produce selection.
As another reviewer commented, the produce is fresh and cheap. And as mentioned above, there are fresh fish too - including a selection of live fish. So if you are looking to add variety to your meals or for a hard to find international ingredient, this is an excellent place to look.
Finally, the owner of this store just opened another location - the Cordova Farmer's Market on Germantown Road and Cordova Road. If you think the South American focus of the Winchester store is not what you are looking for - the Cordova location includes a lot more European food items, and less Mexican items; the Cordova location also has excellent selection of produce and the cheap prices are comparable to the Winchester location. I enjoy shopping both locations, but can understand why a lot of Americans would be more comfortable at the Cordova location.
Hope this helps - and take the time to visit one or...
