MixMasters definitely has a good setup for the space they are currently working in. 1 small room and 1 big room. Both are great for recording music. Reasonable rates. Good vibes overall. However, make sure you choose the right audio engineer for your project. That can make or break your studio experience. My experience wasn't exactly what I wanted due to the person I worked with. If I chose someone else I probably would have gotten a better experience. My biggest issue that I had with the audio engineer that I worked with on my project is that I didn't receive the exact mix I wanted. I had a particular vision from the beginning of the project but it never manifested due to the engineer wanting to go their own path. I am fine with someone laying down their own flavor to a mix but not if I am not 100% satisfied with the end result. I did ask for revisions but it didn't seem like the audio engineer wanted to continue after the third revision. While I am fine with paying for additional revisions, my request didn't get honored. After several sessions and hundreds of dollars later, I ended up just getting the stems and session from them (which took about 2 weeks to receive after the request), to finally mix the track myself. The great part about it is the audio engineer doesn't like sharing the secrets of their mixing so I pretty much had to start from scratch rather than just finish what the engineer had worked on already. Luckily, I use the same exact audio plugins so it wasn't an issue to achieve the quality, it was just annoying having to redo the work because the audio engineer didn't want to do the revision I wanted.
In summary:
The studio is good. (Music equipment is relatively high-end) (The bigger room has a pair of Augspurgers) You can play your music as loud as you please. You can smoke your heart out. You can bring your friends to accompany you in your recording session. You can even post on IG how dope their studio is and give them free advertising. Just make sure the audio engineer you work with is on the same page as you or just choose...
Read moreI'm currently a Manager for 2 local Miami artists. I had one of my artists choose this studio so we tested it. Lets start with how the studio looks when you go in and are sitting in the waiting room. This studio was probably the most dirty looking studio I've ever been to, I have been to one worse, but this was almost the same. When my client asked for pricing and what was included, He was not told that the Mixing and mastering was not included up front, funny how thats the name of the business & after the session my client was then offered to have it mix & mastered, after paying 80 the hour for two hours, that he could have it mix & mastered for another $160. Totally not cool.
When recording my clients song, I told the engineer from the very beginning word for word "Just to save you time, Do not autotune my artists music, He hates autotune"; The Engineer said "Bet" and then proceeded to auto tune my clients work right in front of me. Now I'm a firm believe in testing people, some engineers auto tune a bit at first and end up fixing it completely. This engineer auto tuned THE HECK out of my clients voice & the "fixing" of the auto tuning was distasteful to say the least.
I'm cool with an engineer throwing their own experience into a track but this engineer was just not it. His name is Nico, 10/10 wouldn't recommend him. He said hes been doing thid for years too, I doubt it. I have gone to Electric Halo Recordings, and for 45 the hour gotten Everything I wanted + the Mixing and mastering for a track. Aside from all of this, We reached out to the business to resolve things (its been multiple days now) & have yet to truly hear a genuine apology or resolution to our issue.
Read the other 1 star reviews, they're here for a reason. All if not MOST the 5 star reviews are fake. Notice how theres no 4 no 3 stars, just hundreds of 5 star reviews to bring up their clout & a bunch of 1-2 star reviews. Pretty sketch to me. Like amazon fakes their reviews, This business definitely...
Read moreCame here not long ago because I was impressed by the equipment they advertised on the phone but none of the mixing boards worked there just broken pieces of equipment for show. A lot of people don’t used mixers anymore but for the price and all the hype behind it you would think they could have at least have working equipment. 2/5 for not just that but the dishonesty when we called to asked what mixers they sported. When I spoke to the manager about it when we were there he just smiled and shrugged it off. Decent microphones and as long as you do not need an Avalon the preamps are ok but for as big a name as they seem to be a lot of corners being cut here. EDIT: 1/5 now for the disrespect and further dishonesty. When multiple engineers tell you that the board didn’t work your best shot is to just admit that there was a problem with them if not now then before. I’ve been engineering for over 30 years, I don’t need an assistant I just need working equipment especially if the assistant is going to be one of the engineers that told me they were broken in the first place. Also, 3 complimentary hours doesn’t help much when you are LA based. Could have simply said that the boards were fixed instead of attempting to discredit me due to a bad review but I guess that’s yet another corner being cut. Next time I’m in Miami maybe I’ll check it out. Or maybe I won’t. How can I...
