I brought my 10 year-old to the shop for box braids. Owner told me over the phone that shampoo and deep condition was included in the $200 cost and that I had to bring my own hair or they'd supply it for $15. Arrived and told their hair would've been $9/$10 & that braider was not there because she had to go buy him a belt because his broke. She came in 20 minutes later and began parting my daughter's hair. I had to tell her that the shampoo and deep condition was included or else I would have done it at home. She used regular Tresemme shampoo & conditioner and sat her under a hood dryer that was broken (no insert so the cold air was blowing at her neck). She asked me no questions other than how did I want the hair parted (middle or to the side). 5 hours later I gave her cash and a $40 tip. She only used the shop's florescent overhead lights and it was dark outside and dim inside and I did not see that she left my daughter's edges gelled down. That was on Saturday night. Sunday, despite wearing a bonnet, the gelled edges were lifting. By Monday afternoon, my daughter's hair was sticking out of the braids themselves. I called the owner, John Hall, and he said to send the below pics to him. He then texts me and says that the braider will fix them. I asked for her availability and was given Thursday 5:30, was told to go buy more hair and bring it with me which I refused. I expressed concerns about getting there at that time, but would try to make it work. My kid's camp bus was late and I couldn't get her to his shop in his time frame and he cancelled and told me to reschedule. I scheduled an appointment through the website for Saturday at 12. Beforehand, I had put rubber bands on the braids that needed to be redone including the ones up in the front to address the edges that were 1.5 in. long and looked hideous. We arrived and was told the braider was running late (35 minutes). I told the braider about the bands and what they were for while pointing to the edges, telling her that those needed to be done as well. She pulled off all the bands and started to redo random braids. During the redo, she told me that it was my daughter's hair's fault and that if the braids were smaller, the hair wouldn't stick out. I told her that her other braiders were able to tuck her hair inside the braiding hair and it lasted for 2-3 months with the only way of knowing it wasn't fresh was looking at her scalp, and to do her best. (You can see that the braids are not uniform from the scalp to the ends. They are fat in the middle and then they are skinny after my daughter's natural hair ends.) When she was done, my child's edges were still sticking out and again I asked if she could do them too. She refused and said that she asked my daughter if she wanted edges at the time that she first did them and she said yes. I told her my daughter just turned 10 and just like she asked me about the part in the middle/side, she should have asked me about the edges. I have had her hair braided several times and no one has left out 1.5 in. of hair and then gelled it down. The owner came over and I asked him if she could do the edges. He said she had already done too much and that he had her fix it as a favor to me and they were losing out on money. I asked him if she couldn't just do the edges, "like 2 braids?" He yelled at me like I was his kid, but agreed (he is imposing and, intimidated, I sat down and was quiet). She redid only 2 braids for the edges. There was one more braid left to make it look neat; but they refused. He was ok with how it looked and told me to wrap the extra hair around the braid. I told him about reading his negative reviews and giving him a chance & then he said I could wait until after the braider's next customer who was sitting & waiting. It made no sense to wait for 1 braid and we left. He later admitted that that wasn't a customer, but a friend she was going to have lunch with. Pics: hair 2 days after being done & edges he's ok with. Save your money, time & aggravation. ...
Read moreI set an appointment with Makayla, who did braids and twists. When we arrived to the shop, the man who was in the shop cutting hair told us that she was in her car. When she finally came in-late, she didn’t acknowledge us, she walked past us and began setting up her station, taking her sweet time, walking slow, and her face was clearly unhappy and annoyed. When she finished setting up her station 15 minutes later, she walked over to her us (no words) signaling my child to come over. That was red flag number 1. She than began looking at his hair, and then asks me “ does he need a wash?” I started at her and my husband answered “well we washed his hair yesterday so not really.” She then responds “no it doesn’t matter, I’m just asking.” Red flag #, at this point I’m boiling on the inside trying to refrain from causing a scene. So she proceeds to do my child’s hair, it’s coming out nice, after 4.5 hours of her doing two strand twists medium size, she started packing her station up, so we told our child to tell her thank you. He goes over to tell her thank you, she says nothing and just gestured with her head I guess saying your welcome? Who knows, she was rude as hell TO A CHILD. So the owner comes in toward the end of our appointment. The girl starts leaving out of the salon, which she was still going to get a tip because of her service. But she walked out of the salon, and it worked for us. So we had a conversation with the owner letting him know of our experience, and all he did was make excuses for this girl saying that she was young and that wasn’t his first time hearing that about her, and that she had a lot going on. It’s a shame because we support our black businesses but will not be going back or referring this place because of our experience as well as the owners excuses for...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I ever had in my life. I booked an appointment which was very easy to do. I spoke to Gary the day before my appointment and he was very polite. The problem was I sent the picture to Gary of the hair style I wanted and he said Natalie will do it. When I got to the shop she started my hair and from the first 5 min I ask her if she knew what she was doing she responded yes. So I continued to get my hair done trusting the process. As I am getting to the top of my head where the cornrows was supposed to be at I realized she was not doing the hairstyle correct but I let her continue to do exactly what I am doing now exposing her. When my hair was finally done I told her I didn’t like it and that I will like to fix it at her earliest convenience. She said ok but I have to pick up my son @3:30 so I will call you when I come back. I left a $100 deposit per Gary and was told to pay the other half when I return. So I continue to call her because now it is 5pm and still no response. I then receive a message saying I cannot come back because my son needs to eat and I don’t have availability the rest of the week, mind you my hair needed to be done before Friday morning for wedding. In short, this is the hairstyle I wanted and this is what I got! Please do not get your braids done here or at-least by Natalie. I did get my $100 back but after 24hrs later. After attempting to contact...
