Stephen's Park has a great mountain biking trail which plenty of challenge, though it is definitely one of the smaller ones in the Quad Cities. Thanks to QC FORC, there's a cohesive route that goes down into the ravine and back up again. There are quite a few switchbacks that are VERY challenging because they are on a fairly steep incline, so if you aren't in tip top shape, expect to walk your bike a bit. On the other hand, there's a terrific downhill section that is a blast to ride! The recent derecho of 2020 did a number on the trails with lots of fallen branches, but they are mostly all cleaned up now.
I like Stephen's Park because it is right in the heart of Moline and is a fun, relatively quick, trail to ride. There's more to it than you think, and it takes a couple of visits to figure out the actual completed route. But it's worth it. Now it's marked as a beginner / intermediate trail, but I would say it's pretty difficult for a beginner... mainly because of 1) the ravine drop-off that could be dangerous for new riders, and 2) the steep inclines and switchbacks. But it is very rewarding when you...
Read moreAs a long-time Moline resident, I’m very concerned about the current state of Stephens Park. Unfortunately, it has become more of an outdoor encampment than a family-friendly community space. Individuals appear to be living in the wooded areas and along the trails, and the restroom facilities are consistently unsanitary. Today was my last straw — while hosting my son’s birthday party at the pavilion, I found two full bags of hypodermic needles. This is completely unacceptable and presents a serious health and safety risk to children and families who use the park. It’s disheartening to see how much the park, and Moline as a whole, have deteriorated. I urge the city to take immediate action to clean up and restore this area so that it can once again be a safe and welcoming space for...
Read moreIt's usually is nice and clean. There is a place for a variety of sports like volleyball, basketball, baseball/softball and there is a play area for the younger ones. Theres a water fountain thats not too cold but is cold when you start to get active. The atmosphere is amazing. As soon as you get to the park you want to smile or burst out laughing. The children there are nice and welcoming. Its a nice place to take the kids if you want them to play themselves out and go to sleep...
