Took a hand clay class back in November, and it was fairly standard. They show you what to do, then check in occasionally to see your progress and help if needed. Halfway through, the instructor switched, and the new one had a slightly different teaching style (which I actually preferred). Overall, for the cost, it was a cute and enjoyable experience.
However, the pickup process for finished items was terrible. They make you wait 6 weeks and stress—both verbally and on your sheet—not to call about your items, saying they’ll be ready on the date provided.
When I showed up on the designated day, only 2/4 pieces from my group were ready, which was incredibly frustrating. I barely received an apology. They could have easily called to let me know ahead of time, instead of wasting my time and gas on two trips. Both times I came to pick up, it took about 15 minutes for them to gather my items. The whole process felt disorganized, and a staff member even admitted they miss checkmarks on whose is completed sometimes, which only adds to the chaos. Read moreThis studio changed my life for the better! I took a handbuilding session for my birthday and subsequently decided to take one of the classes. Haven't missed a session since. This is the creative outlet I truly needed. My instructor, Corinne, is amazingly patient, encouraging, and attentive. The community is fantastic and has been a wonderful way to make friends in adulthood.
It's not perfect, the studio get super busy and sometimes it's a little disorganized, but nothing that keeps me from coming back for more. I only say this for the people that can't handle a little mess. I mean, it's literally mud lol, so maybe pottery wouldn't be for you anyway.
They just opened another studio in Upper Montclair, so definitely check this place and their sister...
