Went here with friends a decade ago and decided to celebrate an anniversary with a return around four years ago. The first trip was a mindblowing night, while the second proved even more memorable. For mostly the wrong reasons. As fans of Treasure Island Resort and Casino, I can't help but make direct comparisons, and Grand Casino Hinckley doesn't fair too well in this regard. First of all, we found there were zero promotions attached to room bookings. And the rooms cost more. Not a good start. The food here has a solid reputation. Our options were limited during pandemic restrictions, and I adjusted my expectations accordingly. I was still disappointed. And now for the real entertainment. We just happened to visit when they were experiencing repeated technical issues. Dozens, if not hundreds of machines completely blacked-out, without warning, leaving many dissatisfied gamblers stuck by dead machines, awaiting repair, hopeful of their position being restored. To a far lesser degree, this happened a second time. Hilariously, an announcement was made AFTER the fact that this was merely a test. No-one, and I mean no-one, would ever believe that. You pissed off your customers, then tried lying to us. I wasn't even affected, but still found it annoying. To be fair, them treating us like idiots, when we're all mindlesslly shovelling money into their coffers, shouldn't be at all surprising. Oh, and the fire alarm went off randomly for about a minute. No-one seemed to care. I guess the prospect of burning alive isn't so frightening when you've already spent your retirement at this place. But since there wasn't an actual fire this time, I guess we'll give them a free pass. That's a better promotion than I was offered at any time. In any event, it was really distasteful seeing so many obvious - and I mean OBVIOUS - hustlers doing repeated rounds on specific slot machines. Sure, it's smart to only play when you think they're primed to pay, but for a couple out for just one night on a special occasion to run into the same players doing this throughout the entire day, kinda sucks the fun outta it. We were there purely for fun, to play happy slots with silly graphics and cute music, dramatic heart-stoppers and epic mini-games. Seeing those miserable folks treating it like a job, was beyond sad. I'm sure this place isn't unique to have such clientele, but clearly the type of slots they have here encourages it far more than we've seen anywhere else. Another poor excuse of an experience, was their big promotion for the night, that we just ran into by chance. The promotion itself wasn't the problem, and it was nicely presented by the main announcer, but the area this promotion was placed into seemed completely unsuitable, squished into a space near the bathrooms, causing overcrowding and a bottle-neck for anyone trying to pass through. Just bad planning. The one thing on which I can give major praise is the transition to an entirely non-smoking casino floor, making for an instantly noticeable upgrade in atmosphere compared to the dark and dingy cloud that usually permeates in such places. Ultimately, despite all the negatives, we had an average-good time, but we had to put in far more effort to force the better end of that scale. More than anything, this visit to Grand Casino Hinckley made us want to continue visiting Treasure Island Resort and Casino instead. Now, more recently, we've become semi-regulars, as we've found ourselves having one damn good time after another, though we found our two favourite slot machines disappeared almost as quickly as they arrived, which was annoying. Though not quite as annoying as playing their recent Minnesota Gameday Challenge, finding myself perfectly predict all thirteen different outcomes (including the tie-breaker) for the 29th October 2024 match between Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United, then get totally screwed out of my first place prize as another player who scored only eleven correct predictions was magically awarded more points for the "win" (Grand Casino generously...
Read moreI kept forgetting to mention a couple months ago that at your drink station it wasn't until I finished drinking I believe it was Brisk iced tea that there was two fruit flies at the bottom of the cup. None of the drink machines had ice in them. I guess I just kind of found it surprising that it being one of the easiest stations to keep cleaned and stocked some of the sodas needed to be refilled or have a note put on them saying out, no ice in any of them, and the fruit flies damn near made me lose my cookies. If you just take some hot soapy water and then another container with sanitized water it's real easy to take those spigots off and avoid those fruit flies and then you just dump both the soapy water and then the sanitize water down the drain of the soda machine to eliminate any that could be hiding out inside of it. Fast forward now to just a couple weeks ago. Walked in just a few minutes before midnight on a Sunday. Security was right there at their post as usual. Wasnt busy. Walked past SEVERAL employees, stopped a couple throughout a couple hour span just for basic questions. Such as where's the closest drink station? am I close to the smoking area? and if that machine is out of money where would be another spot where I can cash out? Was greeted by multiple of them just in passing even when walking into high stakes. I might be somebody with very little money but I believe that if you go into high stakes with the first few bucks that you have you can normally win a little bit of something to actually give you a real play money throughout the night and as usual just as luck would have it I made my money back and then some and went back to the smoking area to show it to the person I came with I smoked a cigarette played a little bit and then went back into high stakes with him wanting to show him just what I did to get my money back mind you know it's been a few hours and like I mentioned before I've passed several people that work there, not understanding why (who seem to be the newest and youngest security guard) would come to me and tell me to take my backpack out to my vehicle. I mean I can understand if you guys have a general rule I'm not arguing that part I guess the part that I'm not understanding is why now after how many times have been there in years past and especially just with the one visit in itself why it took so long for somebody to say something especially when I was just getting into my groove of winning. Again there's a lot of businesses that don't allow backpacks for safety reasons I can acknowledge that however since I'm only going into my bag to either grab a cigarette or more money to play with and then also considering the size and Ridiculousness of some women's purses AKA dump bags how it matters. I mean really if it's just in the fashion of how I'm carrying it then I can change that and I won't have it on my back. But I normally have a backpack to every Casino I go to for my wallet, phone cord, cigarettes, lighter, really just anything I could possibly need while playing. So I don't know if it was shift change and he just got a wild hair up his butt and decided to be the first and only person to say something. So I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little annoyed by it. Considering I walked past all these other employees and nobody said a word or even looked at me sideways, i got nothing. Then the new guy on the block cane by and killed my vibe. Brought my bag to the truck went back in and just like someone flipped a switch, the winning was done. So I'm sorry if I've been breaking the rules all these years I guess I would understand a little bit more if I was going in my bag too often too much with suspicious about it but considering I tried telling him all these other people I passed and even spoke to they all saw my backpack. I just think he could have said, okay I understand what you're saying I'm sorry for the miscommunication or if you were misled so just know next time please don't bring in your bag. At least then my vibe would not have been killed and...
Read moreVery disappointed - my wife and I frequent Hinckley and Mille Lacs casino for the past 7 years (until now) Last night, at Hinckley, I was approached by a man in a suit and a security guard while playing blackjack. They asked if I was at Mille Lacs casino the night before - I said yes, I was at the VIP slot tournament and that I had played various slot machines throughout the night. They told me that I had sat down at a slot machine at Mille Lacs that had an $80 credit left behind by a previous player (I was completely unaware there was an $80 credit) The man in a suit at Hinckley told me that I had to give him $80 or that I would banned from both Hinckley and Mille Lacs casino if I did not comply. I asked how this came about and he said that security at Mille Lacs had security footage of me sitting down at the slot, putting my money into the machine, played for a while and then cashed out (which the cash out ticket now had the $80 credit added to my payout slip) I told him that had no idea this had occurred and asked him what slot machine was it - the man in the suit would not tell me. I then asked to see the security footage. He refused and said that if I did not pay the $80, not only would I be banned from both casinos, the matter would be turned over to the "local authorities. " Out of fear of having "local authorities " show up at my front door, I gave the man in the suit the $80. I then proceeded to the security desk at Hinckley and asked to talk to a manager. I explained what had occurred and asked the manager what slot machine this had misunderstanding occurred at - he refused to tell me - I persisted. In a smug tone, he said machine 352 (obviously, that answer was not helpful) I then asked him to show me the video footage. He refused, and told me that I would need to obtain an attorney and subpoena the footage. Obviously, that is not feasible. My wife and I are very upset how this all played out. The man in the suit and manager were unprofessional, rude, and treated me as if I were a hardend criminal. Not only that, it was embarrassing and degrading and ruined our weekend stay. . I ask myself, what if it had been hundreds of dollars I had to pay back without any PROOF that the incident even occurred. It's not the $80 that bothers my wife and I, it's purely how the security at Hinckley casino handled the situation. We are weekly visitors to the casinos, and I can say with absolute confidence that will no...
