We love this humble strand of beach. The dunes are protected for the birds here so no dogs allowed on the beach. I love dogs but love stretches of beach that don't have them so the birds aren't chased out of their own environment. There's cables blocking access but people go under and make trails thru the sensitive breeding area. I would like to see more signage discouraging this type of behavior. Signs to indicate the real access points might help. If you come to tent camp here, be aware and secure your food from the scavenging seagulls and prepare to wake up with a layer of moisture all over everything left out from the fog. We biked the bike trail to the rock and back just under 5 miles. We've been coming here for a couple decades and love it. You can use your window pass for this park to get into the other morro bay state park area to shower. Picnic tables, fire pits, flush toilets, water spigots in various places to fill up dishpan. Locals park in the day use area to come surf. Plenty of tent camping spots and...

Great view of the Rock and lots of birds Lots of public parking available on unpaved ground Public restrooms that have toilet paper, toilet seat covers, and hand soap There isn't a lot of trashcans by the beach so I would practice LNT and pack in pack out. The beach is super crowded with lots of people surfing, exploring, and picnicking We came for a beach side bonfire at the firepits and were lucky to get a spot. There are only 3 fire pits available. We got the one smack dab in the middle with 3 benches around it. Fire pits are large and do a good job of blocking wind. It also has a nice ledge that can act as a table. It's safe and doesn't get too hot. Can get windy and cold so bring lots of blankets and warm clothes for the evening. We made smores and grilled hot dogs over the firepits for dinner. Arrive around 5pm to...
Read moreWhat's up with all the dead jellyfish along the shore??? I've never seen anything like this before but is this normal? I stopped counting at 30 but there's a lot more. Strong smell from the beach and a lot of sand lice so we didn't sit on them. Saw couple of dead birds washed too. There were garbage tangled on the seaweeds along the shore. Diapers, water bottles, plastics.
People feed the squirrel so they're not scared of human. They tried to sneak in our shopping bag, looking for food. I saw birds trying to eat water bottle caps thinking there were food. It's a beautiful place but so sad what people did to it.
There were sand dollars for people collecting. We found most of them on...
