The store is beautiful and it feels nice to walk in. The people who work there are super friendly and not judgmental and have good phone etiquette when people call them. There was someone on here complaining about cultural appropriation because of the sage bundles, but they can suck an egg because spirits in one's house don't care of the color of the person who is smudging. Personally, I don't want unwanted spirits in my house and sage is helpful. Palo Santo wood is nice if you can't handle the smell of sage... some people can't handle the smoky scent of sage. Just because it comes from an indigenous group doesn't mean it can't help others who are not from those cultures. And where the heck does that person think a person in a heavily Christian community is going to find sage bundles if not at Moon Raven Alley? Many white indigenous practices have been long lost because of the oppressive regime of the Roman Catholics centuries ago so anything from cultures that weren't completely destroyed helps. Also, European groups also did a firm of smudging too. The issue is that currently White Sage commonly used by Native Americans is caught up in a trend that potentially endangers the plant because people are not properly harvesting it. I hope that the sage here is harvested responsibly, and if you feel like you want to help Native Americans, donate to a cause and encourage people who sell sage to donate. Otherwise, you need to meditate on this a while and get over yourself if you can only complain and not offer solutions. Overall, Moon Raven Alley provides a service for those that can't find it elsewhere. They are good people and they will always have...
Read moreMy son and I drove from Harrisburg to Mt. Joy (Moon Raven Alley) on Sunday. The voicemail there stated they were open until 6:00 PM. When we arrived there we were presented with a paper note on the front door informing us that Moon Raven Alley was closed for the holiday. I did leave a voicemail and Colette called me and this evening. She left a voicemail and I called her back. I informed Colette that we had driven 40 minutes to shop at Moon Raven Alley only to find they were closed. Colette informed me that their webpage shows their holiday hours but I’m looking right now and it shows you’re correctly open. You might want to make sure your webpage and voicemail are correct next time you close. We traveled additional time and found some amazing shops in Lancaster. The $200 we would have spent at Moon Raven Alley was spent at shops who update their business hours...
Read moreFirst of all, the customer service was wonderful and the aesthetic of the store was beautiful (plus, 35c spell candles). But there was one thing I could not stand behind, because it has hurt so many people:
My biggest issue with this store is the sheer amount of culturally appropriative material they sell. There is an entire wall of just white sage bundles, right next to sweet grass and palo santo. All three of these items come from CLOSED indigenous practises that we have no cultural right to use. It should be the job of this store to provide useful and moral items, not to encourage the cultural dispossession of an already-struggling people.
So. Much. White. Sage. ...
