As we pulled into the parking lot of the Fort Sumpter Ferry, we were happily greeted by a wonderful lady who gave us directions where to park. At this point, we knew this was going to be an amazing experience! There was plenty of parking and parking for people with disabilities. After parking. We were shuttled to the front gate. We purchased our tickets. They do offer discounts, so be sure to find out what applies to you and your group. We boarded the ferry. There were accommodations for people with disabilities. The ferry ride was fun. The tour guides who were 3 Rangers were very knowledgeable. We observed several dolphins frolicking in the water. Once we arrived at Fort Sumter, it was amazing. The Fort is in great shape and so much to see. They give you one hour before you will need to get back to the ferry. There is a souvenir shop for you to visit. Oh yes, there are accommodations for people with disabilities at the Fort. There is limited seating available at the Fort. Our ferry ride was just as fun heading back. Read moreWe took the ferry from Mt. Pleasant and we loved it. We got our tickets early so we had plenty of time to explore the area and some of the missiles they had there. Great view of the USS Yorktown. I was a little worried my 2- and 4-year old wouldn't like the ferry ride but they had a great time. The ride was approximately 30 min. to the fort. We saw big boats on the way. They also had a snack bar on the ferry. We got to stay 1h at Fort Sumter and the ferry left at exactly the time they planned to leave. On the way back we even got to see some dolphins jumping, what a great way to end the day. Read moreFun ride! There are chairs with out arms downstairs and you can request them to bring up, if you cannot traverse the stairs.
The voyage is about 30 minutes. I sat towards the stern of the ferry, and we enjoyed watching the seagulls catching fish.
There is a restroom on the island but it up a flight of stair and the elevator was not in service.
There are also zero handicapped restrooms available… which they announced as we set sail. I thought that was an important tidbit to be aware of.
