Island park isn't just a park it's a place where people celebrate, a place where people learn new things and come together to enjoy eachothers company. When I was homeless as a teenager, island park was a place I could go to escape, fill up my water bottle and wash my hair in the sink of the bathroom. I learned so many things at island park and I've celebrated so many events at island park it's like s second home to me. I miss having Summerfest every year as it was s way for the community to come together and enjoy a nice day of leisure. Right now I'm apart of a none profit organization called "the art interactive" and during the summer we have our "Full moon Festival" at island park. Anyone and everyone is invited ( it takes place the day after the full moon every month) at the full moon festival there is a drum circle with tambourine, drums and rattles you can play, we have a guided meditation session where we all close our eyes and drift to another place, we provide free food for the public, live music and entertainment, open mic time where you can read your poetry, sing, rap, or talk about anything important to you. We sometimes have a DJ with lights under the music Pavillion, and we provide free canvases and paint to whomever wants to create art. We have many vendors that make homemade jewelry, paintings, wire wrapped rings, and more that you could purchase as gifts or for yourself. At the none profit orgnaization "art interactive" our goal is to share love, art and music with the community because not everyone has access to instruments and art supplies and its nice to learn new things. Island park becomes a safe place for people to express themselves and a safe place to learn sports. You can find out more about the full moon festival at island park at fullmoonevent.com. as a child I took tennis lessons at island park and loved it. I've had so many of my kids birthdays at island park aswell because it's a very clean and safe park. There's park Rangers who ridearound keeping the park safe and clean. My husband and I when we were 13 years old used to go to island park to londboard and onetime I fell riding from island park going to Nelson park and skinned my knees up pretty bad I still have scars but it was a learning experience. We would also go on small dates to island park when it was nice outside. It was our go to place to hang out and im thankful to share that with our children now. There is a splash park here at Island Park. Island park is a place where young and old gather to enjoy their leisure time and learn new things whether it's riding bikes, skateboarding at the skatepark, or longboarding around island park it's never s dull moment. Island park was a warm hug to me when the world seemed cold. Now that I'm apart of art interactive and we host two full moon events every month (one in lansing and one in mount pleasant) id like to get more people to come! Check us out on Facebook at "art interactive" or go to fullmoonevent.com. my best friend Haley and I used to play under the railroad tracks as kids I'll never forget how much island park was apart of mychildhood. Us teenagers would have our parents drop us off for awhile and we would all hang out at the skate park. Island park bathrooms are always in decent shape and during the summer there is a farmers market that comes by island park fof the community to enjoy and it's spectacular because you can use your bridge card ic you got it to buy locally grown fresh produce. I can't say enough good things about how much this park has impacted my life honestly. The day I knew I'd marry my husband was at island park when we were 15 lol I just looked at him and thought hmmm I'm going to marry this man and if I can't marry him I'll go to his wedding and cheer him on. And we've been married for years now. All in all I gave alot of my life to this park, and it has given me so many memories in return. I hope to see you at island park this summer at the full moon festival♡ it'll be...
Read moreOur end-of-semester BBQ for CMU ROTC was nothing short of spectacular, and much of that had to do with the incredible park we chose for our gathering. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this park was the ideal setting for a day of fun, food, and camaraderie.
Amenities Galore This park had everything we needed for a successful BBQ. The covered pavilion provided ample shade and space for our food setup, keeping everyone cool and comfortable as they mingled and enjoyed the feast. The BBQ grills were in perfect working order, allowing us to cook up a storm and serve delicious meals to everyone.
Fun for Everyone For our more energetic members, the park offered a fantastic volleyball court. It quickly became the hub of activity, with friendly matches and impromptu games that kept everyone entertained. The large playground was also a big hit, especially for those with kids. It was spacious and well-maintained, providing a safe place for the little ones to play while the adults relaxed.
A Picturesque Setting The park's lush green grass stretched as far as the eye could see, creating a beautiful backdrop for our event. It was the perfect spot for tossing a frisbee, playing catch, or simply lounging on a blanket. The friendly atmosphere made everyone feel welcome, and it wasn't long before we were all enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.
A Sense of Community What truly set this park apart was the sense of community it fostered. The other park visitors were friendly and courteous, adding to the positive vibe of our BBQ. We felt like we were part of a larger gathering of families and friends, all sharing in the joy of a sunny day in the park.
Overall, our CMU ROTC end-of-semester BBQ was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the fantastic park we chose. With its excellent amenities, beautiful setting, and welcoming atmosphere, this park proved to be the perfect place to celebrate the end of a great semester. We can't wait to return for...
Read moreIsland park is my family's favorite park in the area. During the spring months, walking along the river is peaceful and full of life. There's turtles, geese, ducks, great fishing spots, and the calming rush of the river. While in the warmer months, the play structure is huge and can accommodate adults and some disabilities. Lots of shady areas with trees and canopies. There is a spray park adjacent to the main playground that's free and fun for the whole family to cool off on those hot days. There's baseball fields and huge grassy areas perfect for picnics or reading. If you're the daring type, the skate park might suffice your appetite for a rush of adrenaline. There is a huge pavilion that holds gatherings of all sorts. From concerts to family reunions, car shows charity events and much more. Island park also has 2 restroom locations on either side with drinking fountains. Small pavilions surround the entire premise for more intimate time in the shade. If you think that's all this gem has to offer, think again. There's horseshoe pits and shuffleboard at the south side with lots of shade from the wonderfully enormous trees that also shade a full set of slides and swings. This place is a park goers dream. Something for everyone to enjoy. Word of the wise, if you have nerf guns, bring em! There's a good chance someone else might have some out waiting for a battle to break out! Stay adventurous and full of imagination, and remember to...
