I went here when I was out with nothing to do waiting for my boyfriend's family to come. The lady running the place was amazingly kind and patient with my grandiose and ambitious concepts for my mermaid and helped me out, and helped my perfectionist boyfriend get the results he wanted too. There are examples of the glazes on the wall fired so you won't get your colors ruined. She has bases for smaller items, but the larger things are done herself, which is completely amazing to imagine. There's a very calming atmosphere and she's very good with children. She's always around or willing to come help if you call for her. She even is shipping our pieces to my boyfriends house and is painting my mermaid's rock because I didn't have the time. What a downtown gem we have here! I love ceramics and have enjoyed painting since I was a little girl, painting at my Mom’s craft table. The Painted Turtle offers a fantastic selection of glassware to choose from! Some of my old favorites and new molds I know my Mom would have enjoyed. I have treasured the times I have brought my children into this shop over the years! From picking out their project, picking out the paint, to picking up their finished artwork! This is an awesome activity to do for an afternoon. You walk in & select whatever ceramic item you'd like to paint. There's a great selection, & the prices are marked on all items. You then pay for your item at the register. Most things cost between $15-$30. Once you pick your item, you have full independent access to all the paints, stamps, and other items available to decorate your piece. You leave it at the shop and they glaze and fire it for you.

The beauty is that you can spend an entire day on a big project or an hour on something small, & unlike similar businesses, they let you choose your paints freely....
