To sit at a table they demanded my name and phone number, for an open table. Our waitress B'Elanna spoke to us with this fake mean girlies annoyed to be working tone. We were excited for the NA cocktail menu, but was quickly shot down as the waitress told us they don't really carry those but can try to approximate. Got the blackberry nojito. It was OK but not 13 dollars good. (Update: they didn't charge us full price, thankfully for the drinks, charging $12 for the 2 which was fine.) The sushi menu and specialty rolls left much to be desired. The lack of raw fish, and corresponding prices for phoned in pedestrian rolls was disapointing. Skipped ordering sushi. Better options elsewhere in town. When they say small plates they mean it. The scallop starter was good. Salty without the apricot sauce. But it was 2 scallops. Left much to be desired. Edamame was fine. Hard to mess up. The atmosphere is VERY LOUD. We knew everyone's business. There is a lack of sound absorption from the brick walls. There are no wheelchair accessible low tops. ADA RED FLAG.
Overall, its fine. Its trying way to hard for something its not. It likes to turn it's nose up at other people, when its merely masquerading as a sushi lounge.
Mt. Pleasant...
Read moreWhen my wife and I lived in Mt. Pleasant, we would choose Midori as one of our favorite places for date night. We have since moved out of the area and we just happened to be in town so we decided to stop for dinner. I have to say, I was kind of disappointed. The Sashimi eel, salmon, and tuna were good. The portions of the rolls were smaller than I remember. I would now consider them overpriced for what you get. They were good but not as good as they have been in the past. We sat at the bar and we were the only ones sitting there. The young lady behind the bar was very nice but not attentive. She was standing and leaning against the wall next to the register playing on here phone. I shouldn't have to ask for another drink or ask for my bill. Very unprofessional. Maybe it just me but, I aspect more when I'm dropping $180 for dinner. I hope that Midori gets back to the standards that we once knew and enjoyed. Will I ever go back? Yes. If it does not improve the next time we stop in, I will no longer go there and just head to Grand...
Read moreMidori- beautiful setting and atmosphere But….miso soup was more/less water with a few chunks of tofu and seaweed. Salad was dry and uneventful, even when juiced with extra dressing. Sushi chefs in Japan train for years to become sushi chefs. I suspect this restaurant can survive due to wonderful atmosphere and lack of competition. But then again, this is mount pleasant. They have a good thing going here, but food quality is not it. I ordered yellow tail to test. It was wrapped-that’s strange. No wasabi on the rice-that’s strange. Rice volume and temperature not in range -that’s strange. So, I left. I’m now at kuji sushi to see if they can do better.
Please note 4th and 5th photos are from Kuji habachi and sushi. Note the difference in miso soup. I recommend kuji food and personal experience over the “high class” atmosphere of Midori, hands down. Midori has the space, but they are a long way from a good, even further away from a great sushi restaurant. I wish them both the...
