Other than being a good place to get together & run into each other, this skate park has a terrible layout even though it might appear otherwise. All thanks to the lovely park district and Peggy Motta, there are more kids riding bikes & smoking pot than before.
Ground/cement is uneven, skate lite is sticking out of its lining (and new cement is already cracking) Cracks right before entering banks (not to mention the random fire hydrant that more than 90% of people can't utilize which should have been replaced by a out rail instead of putting two identical circle rails next to each other) Ramps are extremely slippery if wet (especially metal edging that's going to come off in due time with the ground being uneven) There is no flow to the park, unlike the prior layout, every obstacle has to be skated individually like a spot "Hand rails" are extremely low to the point that if you get decent speed and gap out, you are more than likely going to break a arm We were promised lights but instead we watch the baseball fields and parking lots that are not being occupied getting lit up.
Overall, all this "effort and hard work" that was shoved down our throats should have went towards Commissioners Skate Park thats off 111 St and Route 59. That place has been a sore to the eyes of the entire town for many years and getting it revitalized for the community would have brought far better results than "keeping it the way it is simply because there is nothing wrong with it" even thought the rail on the ramps is clearly backwards.
It's unfortunate that the city of Naperville decided to go forward with a layout and location against those who've skated there for many years. We were never asked if we wanted a new skate park, we were asked which new obstacles would we like from which we picked from a list of instead of actually collaborating on where things should go, how and why.
Good luck with turning Centennial into something even worse. F- on collaboration and trying to bring the community for a great cause. We were never in a rush to get new obstacles to skate or rebuilding the park.
PS. It would be since if you brought back the bench you took away years ago, it's not doing any better sitting at the (South) Park District...
Read moreHonestly a decent setup, despite other reviews. I feel like more ramps have been added since the other reviews.
The ramps are slicker wood, but they still have decent traction. I could see them being slick after rain etc. The middle street course section is a bit clustered, but still a solid setup. Easy to get speed to use all kickers and rails. All ledges were well waxed, and slide easily. Great progression sections, from beginners to advanced. Really low "slappable" ledges, and great 18 inch ledges for Pros.
The Cons..... very weird fire hydrant randomly fixed at the top of the steepest kicker. Never seen one fixed like this. The bizzare amorphous shaped manny pad is in a weird spot, but at least out of the way. The only 12" rail is hidden behind all the fixtures, alongside a bizzare cut out in concrete. Unforgiving if you're trying the whole rail.
Pros.... lots of benches and shade to sit. The middle section of the street course has great beginners progression sections. All ramps on both ends give ample speed to do all kickers and rails. Honestly a 4.5 Star park, way better than the 2...
Read moreThis park has recently received a total renovation and it is just the spark needed for new life at this amazing facility. The team that poured the concrete has been doing skatepark jobs around the area and they have done an AMAZING job. They should have been allowed to make the entire skatepark rather than just the middle section but that costs a lot of money so the city decided to use prefab ramps, which are tolerable. With all the new income that will be generated from travelers flocking to this park, they will surely be able to afford a full concrete upgrade in the future ;)
There's something at this park to skate for all skill levels. Look at the pictures, pique that skating interest, and go check it out! The worst thing that can happen is you won't like it and you won't come back, but I have no doubt the drive will be well worth it and it will be the first of...
