Not impressed. Went here this past Friday with a friend to try lunch buffet for the first time. We have been to a number of Indian buffets which are much better, including one down the street on Rte 59. Advertised as $14.99 for the buffet, Tues.-Fri. on the sign on the window of the restaurant. A written sign was posted at the food line indicating that it is $16.99 on Fridays. That is poor; you should honor your advertised price. The selection of food items wasn't as broad as others we have been to (one was just a pan of rice). The goat dish was literally just fat and bones and juice. I went up three separate times hoping to find some meat in the pan; no meat. We weren't really greeted when we came in, nor told where to pay. You just go up to the register when you are finished and they charge you there. Probably the most disappointing of all was the "candy dish" at the check out. Most Indian restaurants have a bowl of fennel seeds with some colored sweet bits mixed in. This one TASTED LIKE PERFUME. Either somebody accidentally spilled perfume in it or they put it in there purposely, but it tasted nasty. Not a good way to end the dining experience. The taste of perfume lingered in my mouth for hours until I drank lemon juice to try to dilute it that evening. I will not be going back. There are plenty of these in the area that are...
Read moreOverall good - I would go back. I ordered the butter chicken. It was very flavorful, although a bit too salty. Good flavor and spice, but the sauce could be a little bit thicker and creamier. Overall best in the area that I've had so far, compared to the amazing Indian restaurants in Bloomington, IL.
I dinged Kabab King for a few reasons. First, the person I spoke to over the phone to order for takeout didn't really know how much a side of rice cost. He said "it's like $5". "Like $5" doesn't exactly inspire confidence - give me an exact price, please.
Speaking of rice - that is the other reason I dinged a star. Their butter chicken does not include rice. Why? What is with Indian restaurants around Naperville not including rice with curry? Every. Single. Indian restaurant. that I've ever been to in Bloomington (where there are at least 8 Indian restaurants) includes rice with curry dishes. I just don't understand it. The other Indian restaurant nearby (Sara's, which is a poor, abysmal excuse for a restaurant) also doesn't include rice. Please don't be like Sara's.
Still, the rice serving is quite generous - enough for at least two entrees, so it's not a total ripoff for the price.
Overall Kabab King is good and I will continue to dine here. I'm looking forward to trying some of their...
Read moreFood was just just OK. Went for a dinner with the family on a visit to Naperville and had high expectations given all the other reviews. We got a large variety of kebabs and breads on our visit.
The bad:
Food seemed overly artificially colored. Example is the beef seekh kebab which was just oozing red color. I have never been to a place that colors their beef kebab so much. Tandoori chicken I expect this to a degree, but the kebabs not so much.
Service was subpar by any standard. The table did not have all the place settings, we asked for more, but in the end we had to grab from other tables ourselves to ensure everyone had basic eating utensils, napkins, and drinking cups. Also, aside from dropping the food off, our server never checked back in or paid attention to if we needed any water and drink refills. We had to basically overtly flag him down to get any attention. For this, we still ended up with a default ~18% gratuity for our party size.
The good:
Location was nice, and there was a decent amount of table space. Decor was also decently done. We were able to call in advance and reserve a table for dinner.
To conclude, skip this place if you are looking for the best kebabs, unless you just happen to be in the area. There are way better kebabs and service...
