I normally never write negative reviews, but my recent experience at Crosby Jewelers was truly shocking.
I came in with my father and my two daughters to repair a ring (a gift from my wife) where the black agate stone had come loose, as well as a bracelet chain with a crack. A man named John came out, and I explained the situation. Instead of offering straightforward help, he told me that if the ring was new, I should return it to the original store. I explained that it was purchased abroad in Uzbekistan, so that was not possible.
Then he said that even just waiting for an estimate would take 2–3 weeks, which already felt strange. When I asked how much it might roughly cost just to glue the stone back, he suddenly said it could be around $350–400, which seemed unreasonably high.
I admit that my English is not perfect, and sometimes when I do something for the first time, I may ask the same question more than once. I even apologized for that. But instead of being patient, John changed his attitude completely — looked at me as if I was wasting his time, and then flat-out refused to help. He said, very rudely, “You don’t understand?! I can’t help you!” and walked away to the back room.
This was humiliating and very disappointing, especially in front of my father and my children. I may have repeated myself or asked “stupid” questions, but that does not give John the right to treat me in such a disrespectful way.
The most surprising part? I went to another jewelry repair shop afterwards, and they treated me with kindness and respect, answered all my questions, charged a much fairer price, and completed the repair in only 2 days. That shows how unnecessary and unprofessional John’s behavior really was.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this jeweler — and specifically, I would strongly warn others not to...
Read moreMike at Crosby helped me create the perfect engagement ring for my fiancée. I brought in pictures of a ring from a high end boutique online brand that I knew she liked. He helped me modify the design so it was similar, but unique, found the perfect diamond, and then worked closely with the caster to make sure it came out well. When I wanted to change up the design slightly after the first casting, he got the caster to make those changes without charging me. Throughout the whole process he was always proactive in communicating, was very responsive, and always stuck to timelines we set. The final outcome was a beautiful, unique ring that was thousands of dollars, about 33%, cheaper than if I'd bought it from that boutique online brand. My fiancée is over the moon about her ring and she gets tons of...
Read moreCrosby Jewelers is truly the gold standard in customer service. I have been there many times over the years and have had consistently positive experiences there. Today I went in to ask if they could help to get rid of tarnish on a silver necklace I'm giving as a gift. They salesperson did what he could for me - with a smile - and he didn't charge me anything. That never happens anymore! I hope this wonderful store stays in business for a very long time. It's a...
