I stopped in at Tashmoo Distilling Company in New Baltimore on a whim and ended up having one of the most enjoyable cocktail-experiences I’ve had in a long time. I ordered their Old Fashioned Sidewheel and it immediately let me know I was in good hands. The drink came in a beautifully cut glass, with a large, crystal-clear ice cube and a perfect orange twist. It tasted smooth but full of character—clearly made with high-quality spirits and genuine care.

What impressed me just as much as the drink was the atmosphere. The interior evokes a kind of refined comfort. There’s a subtle nod to local history too: their website explains they styled the space in the spirit of a 1920s speakeasy lounge aboard the old steam-ship Tashmoo. The combination of heritage, craftsmanship, and modern design makes it feel unique and memorable.

From the moment I arrived, the staff were friendly and attentive. Other visitors agree after reading other reviews highlighting that “bartenders are so friendly, making delicious drinks.”

Disappointing Experience at Tashmoo Distillery

My boyfriend and I visited Tashmoo Distillery last Saturday night (11/23), hoping for a nice evening out. At first glance, it seemed like a cute spot, though quite small. We walked in and waited, expecting some direction or a greeting. Unfortunately, no one acknowledged us or offered assistance.

After I finally flagged down a bartender to ask how things worked, we were told to sit anywhere and order at the bar. We took seats at the bar as soon as they became available, understanding they were busy since the place was full. However, despite having three bartenders on duty, not one greeted us or even made eye contact.

We patiently waited for about 20 minutes, giving them time to catch up with other orders. Even when the bartenders were no longer busy, they continued chatting amongst themselves, ignoring us entirely. It felt like we were invisible and unwelcome. The lack of basic hospitality made it clear they had no interest in serving us, so we left.
