If visiting, or perhaps you've lived in the area all your life, but some how missed Mitchell's Hardware Store, (located in the Historic District of New Bern) is a must stop, as you'll be in for a surprise and a treat. Mitchell's Hardware, (MH) isn't your typical Hardware store, (HWS). From the antique collection in the front window to the moment you step in, MH will transport you back in time to a special visit like none other. It has for you older generation that on "Walton Mountain"-isk shop feeling, or if you're not familiar with that term, how about traveling back in time.

From the old hardwood floors, to the wonders of old time candy stocked shelves and of course tools, as well as bits and bobs of new items to antiques, there is something for everyone. From the collector to the DIYer, as MH is a after all a functioning HWS. The staff are Friendly, Helpful, and informative of in, as well as outside of MH, and enjoy interacting with their customers from natives in the area, from afar, to out of state travelers and their adventures. And are always up to helping you find a solution to an inside or outside household, garden, project, or problem.

Although parking can be found out front of the store, be prepared to find parking elsewhere, although not very far; you can find parking near MH, just a note to bring the walking shoes, but trust me, it's well worth the walk. The store has the ability to accommodate those of us who need assistance and use walkers, wheelchair, or mobility scooters, caution is however still advised, as some places in the store might be tight to navigate, but not impossible.

Wow. What a neat place. A local was telling me their motto is: if you can't find it here, you don't need it. I thought that was peculiar for a hardware store... then I went in. Mitchell's really does have everything - feed, hardware store items, plants, knives, souvenirs, ornaments of the town Bear statues, skillets, etc. Definitely stop in here if nothing else but to take it all in, in all its glory. Oh Mitchell’s why did I move away from New Bern? Mitchell’s is the BEST place to shop for anything from nuts and bolts, to camping and gardening to hog rings and spices… Honestly I’d shop there, before going anyplace else. The service from the staff is fantastic, you won’t get that service at any of the chain stores. For holiday shopping, for both men and women, a gift certificate from Mitchell’s is the way to go!
