We’ve eaten here and had takeout numerous times over the past several years. I wish I could give five stars, but it seems as if TA has been slowly sliding. This last time there were too many things to ignore. So, this review is written in hopes of feedback for improving back to where TA once was- an excellent restaurant. First problem was attitude on the phone. Be pleasant and helpful! Warmth can be felt in the tone of your voice. This seems to have been lost by the staff taking orders. Second, repeat the order to insure accuracy! We got a double order of spring rolls despite being confirmed by me. Thirdly, rice portions are ridiculously small. Come on, I’ve never had this problem at any Thai or Asian restaurant! It is literally the cheapest part of the meal. We have to order not one, but two extra to have enough for a meal for two! Fourthly, ingredients, especially proteins, are extremely skimpy. We ordered chicken on each of our meals. I literally got 3 pieces and my wife got 4 that were so small I could fit them in my hand! Plenty of carrots, onions, peppers, basil, etc, but for $12 there should be more than 3 or 4 pieces of protein. Lastly, the price for an order of spring rolls, 2 mains, and 2 extra mini-containers of rice was $50! It would be excessive even without the current state of the economy, high gas prices, and inflation. It really pains me to write this because we LOVE the flavors and authenticity of the food at TA. We don’t want another great restaurant to go out of business! However, there are too many other eateries that are cheaper or restaurants that are fancier to lure diners away from here. A little training, a relook at pricing/ingredients/quantity, and tweaking a few things will keep current customers and attract new...
Read moreThis is simply a move from Thai Thai to a downtown location.
They did downsize their location a lot (to be expected, especially in downtown), but it's worth every trip.
I went on Sunday with the wifey because I had misunderstood that the buffet was during the week only. If the buffet is anything like it was during the Thai Thai days, this restaurant will be one of the best spots to eat in downtown.
The owner is really nice and the ingredients they use are actually really fresh. I used to work at the place they shopped for the ingredients in town, and boy let me tell you everything is fresh.
If I had to recommend something, I would say any of the Curries are really good. If I had to choose what my absolute favorite meal to eat (from home or from going out to eat), I would genuinely give that title to the red curry at Thai Angel. It's a little pricey (if you consider 13 dollars pricey), if you don't make it to the lunch menu (so I dont get to eat there as much as I want due to working through the week), but you get plenty of food and will go home stuffed and happy.
I'm a college student so you KNOW that if I recommend a 13 dollar meal, it is the real deal.
Highly recommended, tied with Bay Leaf and Ginza for my personal favorite places to...
Read moreWalking through downtown New Bern and accidently walked up on this establishment. I already like Thai food but really wasn't thinking about dinner at the moment. At least that is what I thought.
My daughter said it would be great to grab some Thai food to go. She also noted how much traffic was going in and out as we were walking up. I was easily persuaded to head in and next thing I know we are seated and drinking Thai beer and waiting for our food. We ended up eating there and the food was great!
The food came out relatively fast or it seemed that way. I was too busy laughing and talking to my daughter. I ordered the classic shrimp fried rice and she ordered cashew, vegetables and noodles.
Both dishes were pretty to the eye and very satisfying to soul! I asked for a to go platter but in the process of moving the food from plate to the container, it all ended up in my mouth...lol.
Great find, nice staff and really awesome food! Definitely would visit again next time we...
