We stayed at this hotel for two separate nights, two weeks apart. Although it’s a newer property, there were a number of operational issues during both stays.
First stay: We arrived at 3:50 PM for a 4:00 PM check-in, but our room wasn't ready until 4:30. Other guests were still waiting to check in when we left the lobby around 5:00.
Restaurant/bar signage stated a 4:00 PM opening, but the bartender informed us they open at 5:00 instead.
Visible water staining on the ceiling outside our hotel room door.
At breakfast, we were initially given the wrong menu, as they use different ones on weekdays vs. weekends.
We overheard a staff member questioning whether bar glasses were clean, which raised concerns about cleanliness procedures.
The room itself was spacious and looked nice, but walking barefoot after showering revealed that the floors hadn’t been mopped properly.
We called down to the front desk to ask if hypoallergenic pillows were available, but were told none were, which is atypical for this class of hotel.
We pre-paid for both stays and asked to stay in the same upgraded room for our second visit. The front desk staff said it was available but claimed they couldn’t change our reservation since it was pre-paid. Hilton customer service said the front desk could make the change. Multiple front desk staff promised to leave notes for the manager to call us, but we never heard back prior to our subsequent stay 2 weeks later. No manager was ever on-site during our stay.
Second stay (2 weeks later):
We arrived at 5:00 PM (after 4pm check-in time) and were told our reserved room was down for maintenance. The staff seemed unsure how to proceed and again, there was no manager on-site. We were finally placed in a different room around 5:30 PM.
The room had a ceiling fan. We turned off the light switch which turned off the fan. We tried to turn the fan back on (light switch, fan remote on the wall, HVAC controls), but no matter what we tried, it would not turn back on.
Our new room was located off the atrium on the 3rd floor, where we noticed heavy ceiling discoloration that might appear to be mold (photos attached). Similar staining and what also might appear to be mold were visible in the lobby ceiling outside the restaurant.
This hotel has potential, but the lack of management presence and the number of operational and cleanliness issues were...

The view of the river/boats from our room was spectacular!||As good as all of the physical attributes of the Tryon Riverfront Inn were, the hotel personnel is where this hotel really shines!||Medina and Justin went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and always greeted us with a warm smile and hello whenever we were in the lobby. ||This hotel currently has rooms on 3 floors and we were curious about what was on the 4th floor. Medina and Justin took the time to let us know all about the different types of suites that are currently under construction on the 4th floor, even showing us the floor plans!||We were so impressed with this brand new hotel and warm, welcoming staff, that we can’t wait to return again...
Read moreThis Inn is in a beautiful location and the rooms are nicely appointed, as I would expect for a Tapestry property. I'm a Hilton Gold (formerly Diamond) Member and this was well worth the points for a few nights away! The front desk was very friendly, the rooms have upgraded amenities like a Nespresso coffee maker (the way to my heart), and you are steps from the Riverwalk. Everything we had at the on-site restaurant was excellent, although I'd suggest some practice for the smoked old-fashioned. You are within easy walking distance of downtown New Bern, we didn't need our car except for a day trip to the beach. (Recommend Baker's Kitchen, Poppy's, Baxters, and don't miss a short walk along the water for Gemelli's Bagels!). This hotel is FAR better than the Doubletree next door, or any other hotel in New Bern IMO. Stay...
