Extremely happy that they were able to rebuild this lighthouse, after it collapsed due to damage by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. It took 7 years to secure the funding and rebuild it, and they have done an amazing job! This is a great place to visit, and the entire surrounding area is beautiful, too. Don't forget to visit the other lighthouses nearby, Port Pontchartrain (on the U. of New Orleans campus) and Tchefuncte River (across the lake in Madisonville).

GTN Recommended - This beautiful spot on the Lake Ponchartrain lakeshore features a replica of the old lighthouse. Inside you'll find a museum hosted by the Ponchartrain Conservancy. You'll learn the history and current issues of fisheries, shrimping, and even saltwater levels in the lake and bayous of the region. We highly recommend a tour of this small museum to gain an understanding of the region's waterways and their impact on the nation.

I am a local and decided to do the lighthouse tour with some friends in town. We were extremely disppointed. You pay to walk through a display on the history of the lighthouse. None of the interactive exhibits worked, there was no one available for the guided tour and the self guided tour offered a 5 minute narration. I've toured many lighthouses across the country and this is the first one that we couldn't...
