Read moreGiving this park 3 stars because it’s beautiful and perfect for picnics, bbqs, games, etc and has a parking lot, but every time I try to play pickleball on one of the many courts there it’s unnecessarily difficult. 😭
Even if there are empty courts when you arrive, which is very rare, you can’t just walk in and play like you would at any public park basketball court or something. Here they make you go and sign up for a court on a clipboard in the office up the hill. But when you go to sign up, usually people have hogged it up for the next 2-4 hours. I’m not sure how to make the system better, but there definitely has to be a better way.
It seems there’s no ideal off time either unless you’re a freelance kind of person who can go on a Tuesday at 1pm- but honestly not even then, seeing as an older retired crowd is there from dawn to dusk.
No shade to my pickle ballers and tennis players- I think we just need more courts and maybe an online rsvp system that opens up 24 hours in advance each day? Some days we’ve gotten lucky and pulled up to one or two empty courts but there’s almost no hope of playing on a weekend.
It’s also worth mentioning that to play tennis here you apparently need physical permits- even on the open public courts. I witnessed the clubhouse attendant harass 2 young kids to tears about having theirs and accusing them of having expired permits when they were in fact not expired at all. He seemed as if he just didn’t want to help them reserve a court, but was happy to extend court time for his weekly regular buddies who were already playing. The whole process is simply way more stressful than it needs to be , which is a shame because it’s really an amazing park and...
