If you're a book lover, like me, I recommend this old fashioned bookstore. They have a great collection of books at very good prices. They also have a nice collection of books about New York. I bought a rare find for my collection on books about New York. I got it at a great price. It was $35 but the Gentleman working there sold it to me for $32 inc. tax. The people running the place were very nice and helpful as was a lady that was there who seemed to be a neighbor and frequent visitor. The only drawback is that it only opens on Saturdays and Sundays. It is worth waiting until the weekend to visit this πŸ’Ž gem of a πŸ““ bookstore.

I really like this low-key and snug used book store. Surprisingly, I have never purchased anything until recently. But that's just me. I am particular about which books to buy. I bought a travel book and am quite enjoying it. Anyway, I did notice that they had a section for comics and graphic novels and such. You have your usual sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, poetry, high literature, etc sections. They do also have a collection of old New York related books so history freaks should be happy here. It is located between a Thai restaurant and a bar, so you can choose how you will enjoy your new book!

OMG, you guys! I just found the most amazing bookstore in Brooklyn! Freebird is like a treasure trove for book lovers! They have the most unique and rare books I've ever seen. I'm talking vintage pulp fiction, underground comics, and poetry that'll blow your mind. The owner is super knowledgeable and will hook you up with recs. Plus, the vibe is so cozy and chill, you'll wanna hang out all day. They even have a rad reading nook and host sick events. If you're a bookworm like me, you gotta check this spot out! 5 stars, hands down! πŸ€©πŸ“š

An absolutely gorgeous local bookstore with great ambiance and character. Although they have an extensive inventory, Freebirds specializes in books related to NY history and culture. Stumbled into Freebirds during an afternoon walk and was mesmerized by the floor to ceiling stacks and overall communal energy. After a little research, I found out Freebirds was opened by Samantha Citrin and Rachel London in 2004 and later sold to local resident, Peter Miller. Peter was very pleasant and looked like a modern day Hagrid behind his stack of books and vintage cash register. Finally, in addition to the community orientated events this little bookstore hosts, it is also home to NYC Books Through Bars - a Volenteer collective which sends free, donated books to the incarcerated. Will definitely be returning. Shop local! Let’s keep...

September 27, 2015: Day trip exploration of Columbia Street with Lluvia and Dan.

Great experience speaking with Peter about the history of Columbia Street. When I mentioned I was a former resident of Columbia Street, albeit more than 57 years ago, he indicated he had photos of the neighborhoods depicting images of historical significance. This was exactly one of the reasons I went there seeking information that would begin to help me reconstruct a more realistic historical view of my childhood existence. This bookshop will become the epicenter of my research to create a document, my "story", that can be shared with my family and...
