My favourite building in Times Square, the building was designed as an art deco ziggurat in 1926 by the Chicago firm of Rapp and Rapp. Paramount's executive offices stretched from the 9th to the 12th floors. On the 11th and 12th floors were two test theaters. From the basement, where the Hard Rock Cafe now is, to the 8th floor was the flagship Paramount Theater done in a baroque style with a grand lobby that stretched the entire length of the 43rd street side of the building. The theater's stage was on the 44th street side of the building. In its heyday the 3,663 seat Paramount was the grandest theater ever built in the theater district or Times Square. Lasky and Zukor's logo for the Famous Lasky Players, Paramount's predecessor graces the office entrance above the revolving doors in bronze. In the basement of the Paramount was a Wall of Nations where a stone from famous buildings across the world could be seen. A stone from Greece came from the theater on the Acropolis. From France, the Cathedral at Rheims. From the US, the US Capital, from Austria, Vienna's Gothic Revival Rathbun etc. The clock in the tower had stars representing the stars in Paramount's logo. The beacon atop the...
