Two days after witnessing the explosive performance of Hell’s Kitchen Broadway Musical at Shubert Theater, Comfy seating but tight leg room. That didn’t take away from the experience! I’m still buzzing with excitement. The show left me utterly captivated, and it's safe to say, I’m still processing everything I experienced. It was the final performance of the incredibly talented Brandon Victor Dixon, and he gave nothing less than his all. His vocal range? A solid 10/10. Every note was perfect, and his stage presence was electric. Dixon’s portrayal was as emotionally powerful as it was vocally stunning, delivering each line with intensity and sincerity that pulled the audience in. But it wasn’t just Dixon. The entire cast was on fire that night. Each performer brought their A-game, infusing every scene with passion and energy. You could feel their commitment to the story, and it was clear how hard they worked to bring this show to life. The acoustic traveled well across the theater. I brought my sister along for the experience, and it left us both feeling uplifted and more connected to the characters and the narrative. Hell’s Kitchen is not just a performance; it's an emotional journey that stays with you long after the final curtain falls. The musical, about two hours long, is divided into two acts with a 15-minute intermission, which felt like the perfect balance. One piece of advice: get to the theater at least 30 minutes early. Use that time to grab snacks and drinks, and settle in so you’re comfortable for the performance. Trust me, you’ll want to be fully present for this experience. There are no photos or videos allowed, and rightfully so – Hell’s Kitchen is a show you need to experience firsthand. The energy, the atmosphere, and the hard work that goes into every second of the play is something you can’t capture through a lens. I sat in the mezzanine (best seating area to observe the full stage and choreography). Since that night, I’ve already purchased the soundtrack, and I’m eagerly planning my return later this month. If you haven’t seen Hell’s Kitchen yet, do yourself a favor, GO! It's a Broadway experience...
Read moreThe Shubert is a legendary Broadway theatre with consistently terrific shows on its stage. I finally made it to HELL’S KITCHEN, the Alicia Keys jukebox musical, which has been occupying the Shubert since last year. It’s a mostly new cast, and they’re spectacular.
Full disclosure: I know 5 Alicia Keys songs. One of them is in Act 1 (Girl on Fire) and the rest are in Act 2 (If I Ain’t Got You, Fallin’, No One, and Empire State of Mind). Alicia stans will adore this show start to finish, but even those of us who are less versed in her catalog are thoroughly entertained. Those like me, be patient for the hits in Act 2 - they’re worth the wait.
Why is this show enjoyable to a non-stan of Ms. Keys?
I’ll note Ms Kecia Lewis was out of the show I saw, but her understudy, Amanda Birchett, was PHENOMENAL. the vocals were mind bogglingly fantastic. She usually plays Crystal - shout to HER understudy Amma Osei, another superhuman vocalist.
Lastly, take an 8 minute walk to Manhattan Plaza after the show to see the building where the show takes place and Alicia grew up. My guncles lived there. It’s special.
Go see Hell’s Kitchen, no matter how much Alicia Keys music you know. You’re guaranteed to be blown away by the vocals, including if you have...
Read moreWE have seen many shows at the Shubert, but Hells Kitchen tops it!!!!! But this review is about the customer service, I had THE BEST CUSTOMER Experience, first I tried to get last minute tickets for my mom who was unsure if she could make it in from CT due to the weather, it was snowing a bit, and we were celebrating her bday 🎂, she really wanted that show, I thought I booked for 2/20 but I made a massive mistake and booked for 3/20, Julie (I think was her name, she was Asian, not to profile or be offensive) in the first window helped me in no time to be sure we didn't miss any of the show, especially since I had trouble getting in bc i was unaware my tickets were for march ugh the panic since we came in from South Brooklyn and mom from central CT 77y/o, she said so kindly without delay it's the wrong date but I can get you a great deal in center 5th row for tonight and I can help you get your refund just come back at intermission, so reassuring..... (original seats were nosebleeds but honestly all are pretty decent at the Shubert so I wasn't concerned) seats were beyond AMAZING and I went back at intermission to check on the refund situation, she said she couldn't get through to the company but will do it in the morning, and sweetly asked how my mom was enjoying the show?. This morning I had confirmation that the refund was complete! This was THE BEST all around experience I have had attending any Broadway show! THANK YOU Julie! I'm sorry if that's...
