Reflecting on my visit to the Brooklyn Diner in 2020 brings back a mix of positive and mixed feelings. Situated in the heart of Brooklyn, the diner's nostalgic ambiance immediately struck a chord with me, with its classic neon signs and retro decor. It was like stepping back in time while being in the middle of a vibrant city.
The menu was extensive, offering a wide range of diner-style comfort food. The all-day breakfast options were a highlight for me, and the portions were certainly generous. I thoroughly enjoyed the fluffy pancakes and the crispy bacon, reminiscent of the classic American diner experience.
However, while the atmosphere and some of the dishes were on point, the service left a bit to be desired. The diner was quite busy, which I anticipated, but the wait for our orders and the difficulty in getting the attention of the staff were a slight letdown. This might have been due to the diner's popularity, but it did affect the overall experience.
On the positive side, the dessert selection was a sweet ending to the meal. The milkshakes were thick and delicious, and the pie had that homemade quality that's hard to find in many places nowadays.
In summary, my visit to the Brooklyn Diner in 2020 was a mixed experience. While the ambiance and some of the food offerings captured the essence of a classic diner, the service could have been more attentive. If you're looking for a nostalgic diner experience with a side of patience, this spot might still be...
Read moreMe, my wife and our granddaughter have been staying in the Times Square area for the last 9 days seeing shows and Brooklyn Diner (BD) has become our go-to for meals when we're not seeing sights outside the Times Square area.
We first tried BD for breakfast our first morning in town, and it has become our breakfast location for every breakfast for which we didn't already have a reservation. The staff is always very pleasant and courteous, the background music is always right where it belongs - in the background - and the food is great.
I've seen folks writing reviews that say the food isn't great or worth the price, but: It's a DINER!! The food is great for ANY diner, family restaurant, etc. It's not trying to be a Michelin starred restaurant (and I've eaten at many). Complaining about the cost is ridiculous when it's no more pricey than Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Carnegie Diner, or Juniors, and IMO is better than ALL of them (and yes, I've eaten at them all).
Honestly, I was of two minds when deciding to write this review. Brooklyn Diner seems like kind of a hidden gem because, so far, we've been able to get in without a reservation every time we've gone and I'd hate for that to change. However, I think they deserve to be recognized for the great experiences we've enjoyed there so far.
I really do like Brooklyn Diner a LOT and it has absolutely become our go-to for dining in the Times Square area.
Eat there - you won't be...
Read moreWith scaffolding over the entrance, the first impression, due to no fault of its own, is not impressive to the eye. But once inside this nice size diner, one realizes that the place is attractive (see my photos). UPDATED REVIEW: At one o'clock in the afternoon, I ordered from the area of the menu which says, " breakfast all day." I had three scrambled eggs, small cubed home fries, ham and challah bread. Jelly and Greenland salted butter came on the side with the order. They have a new chef whose home fries I did not care for. Instead of putting bread on a plate of its own, they put the bread on the plate with the eggs, thereby giving you a SMALL amount of home fries or its alternative French fries. The cost was, including tax, $24 + tip. It was the optional ham cost that brought the price to that level. They offer the eggs with an option to add Nova smoked salmon on the side, as was the ham. I had their coffee and enjoyed it. After leaving the above review about the eggs, I went back and had their oatmeal which was watery. It had a lot of fruit on it, but the preparation of the oatmeal, which should not be watery, was poor. My photos include the restaurant's framed image of the Brooklyn Dodger's Ebbets Field stadium and a flag landmark seen near the restaurant. I have included in my photos a number of different areas of the diner, including the bar where you can order from the menu being served...
