This place is actually beautiful..! I ran into this place by accident & I am so glad I did . Altho I missed the full blooms still was able to catch some of it. In a week all the flowers will be gone . Now I know about this place & will be waiting for another season next year ...

I like the design of this park, uniquely done for some peace & alone time. Very clean too, I am actually surprised about it.

Now I am curious to see how this place will look when...

This small park includes the sculpture of the very model of a modern major general: General Daniel Butterfield, by Gutzon Borglum, 1917. The sculptor later designed and oversaw the production of Mt. Rushmore. On his difficulties with this work and on Butterfield's part in Black Friday, 1869, see the Amazon app Monuments of Manhattan (videoguide) and Durante's Outdoor Monuments...

it's still not open. even though it's spring. didn't look like someone was working there.

there are some (around 9 trees - see the chart of the construction notice) white blooming cherry trees, without a charming surrounding in the park. it's not a lot, wouldn't consider a visit there again. you find the same amount of cherry blossoms and magnolia trees in the city or in...

It’s cherry blossom season and did you know there is a park uptown named those beautiful trees? This is Sakura Park. Why is it named that? It goes back to 1909, in honor of the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s discovery of the later named Hudson River the Committee of Japanese Residents of New York donated 2,500 cherry trees. However, the ship those trees were one sunk and en route to New York. Fast forward to 1912, the trees were re-sent and arrived. They were scattered throughout Manhattan, mostly in Riverside and Central Park, but also here, which is why it’s called Sakura Park. There are two other things worth seeing here. There is this traditional Japanese stone lantern called a Toro. It was gifted to city in 1960 from the former of Japan in honor of Tokyo and New York City becoming sister cities. The other is this statue of Civil War General Daniel Butterfield. He is the person that composed the music of taps. And it is also worth noting he is facing towards General Grant’s tomb, which is fitting since they both fought in the Civil War. ………. …….. ……. …… ….. …. #nychistory #nyc #newyorkcity #nycparks #cherryblossom #sakura #sakurapark #morningsideheights #nyctravel #nyclife #thingstodoinnyc #discovernyc #welovenyc #iloveny #nycspring
