I attended a wedding here on 10/13/13, I have got to say this place is amazing, the food, especially the cocktail hour was great, the service was quick and everyone was very helpful and polite.
Now the evening was great, they did have the bathroom attendant that you would tip, (since he took all the paper towels from the dispenser) but I understand, he kept the bathroom clean, had mints and other toiletries ready for you.
My problem came at the end. So you get off the highway and are pretty much funneled into the parking lot, where a ver nice gentleman, short with a mustache, greats you, gives you a ticket and then say enjoy your evening. So at the end of the night, I go to the Valet window, where he sees me and meets me outside, very nice and takes my ticket, calls a person over to get my car. He asks us very politly to stand under the heated area and makes some small chit chat with us that is very nice.
So our car comes up, the gentlemen once again thanks us and says please drive safely, and walks away. My wife gets in the car on her side, I walk over to my side, and the boy is standing uncomfortable on the inside of the opened door of my car, so I fit myself into the car and as I grab my door, he blocks it with his body and says " we work on tips".
So he basically strong armed me to tip him rather than making it my decision. At that moment I decided not to make a scene and end the very beautiful night, I gave him a tip and we were on our way.
I do believe a tip is given for a job well done, which I would have gladly given to the person before, but he left to attend to other people leaving,
I do believe this is a free country, I always tip, I did not realize my tip was supposed to be at the moment he wanted and not when I wanted to. I'm sure people leave without tipping, well thats what happens,, you don;t make my wife and I uncomfortable and then use that kind of tactic to extract your "pay"
luckily I was with my wife and we were celebrating a close friends wedding, or there definitely would have...
Read moreDespite the fact that Villa Barone has an excellent location just a few blocks from the Whitestone Bridge and their servers are young, well mannered gentlemen, I found my experience to be less than satisfactory, and these are the reasons why: The quality of the food is far from what I am used to whenever I am at a wedding, banquet, etc. I had the prime rib and it was the worst prime rib I have ever had, and I have had prime rib at other catering halls that were stellar. They offered hors d'oeuvres that were overly salty but each table of ten was given just one small pitcher of water to share. This event had no other form of drink until near the end, when we were given a small pitcher of juice that tasted horrible. The bread, which should have been placed on the tables at the onset never made it on to our tables until well after the entrees were served. For this event it was strictly forbidden for any pork to be served but there were several trays of prosciutto that were placed out with other foods next to the large bowl of Caesars Salad. The fruit were served consisted of pineapple that still needed a few more days to become ripe. When someone else at the table I sat at mentioned that his Salmon was not of the same quality that he is used to, then it became apparent that their food is not of the best quality. For dessert we were served a flavorless sponge cake with a flavorless white frosting. It would have been okay if there was some sort of fruit within the cake, but there wasn't. It was bland and had no taste to it. My suggestion is to not use Villa Barone to cater your big event because your guests will be severely...
Read moreWent for a work convention. We were told to just show up and everything was paid for. We were told parking was included. When we arrived they had a vallet setup no other option was given and we were assured it was covered by the event planner. However we had to deal with nasty comments , sucking teeth, and were treated badly because we couldn't leave a cash tip. We apologized and waited patiently didn't rush or anything but we were told it was all covered and didnt enter with any cash. The gentleman literally stood in the walkway of the door so he can suck his teeth and grill me before allowing me to enter my car to leave. Appetizers were great however the main course was disappointing. Out of all of the servers two of them were extremely pleasant and the rest were upset to be there. Maybe the program organizer didn't tip or there was something else going on but for a party of hundreds of people gratuity should be included and if it's not then your organization should be doing better for your staff. That's unfair in itself. Not everyone that goes to those conventions have money and are doctors. Some of us work admin and barely make our bills. Treating us like...
