Marquis "Bo" Porter Sports Complex — Attraction in Newark

The life guards in the baby pool area are inattentive. There are three entrances to the park on three different streets yet the only entrance open is the front one on Lyons Ave. which is the car entrance, so cars are on the same walk way that the children walk on to get to the basket ball court and the playground. They do not have swings for the minor children. The equipment that they have is not suitable for any child, (too dangerous). The staff handing out water to the Newark residents harass the children, and argue with the parents. The security not only looks suspect, but they are unprofessional, and ignorant of basic laws like the one consent law to record, or freedom of speech. My child was told not to play in the play area where the big tic tac toe, and checker board is, because they are giving out water, ( If they used either of the two other entrances this would not be an issue). When I countered what the staff said to my child, the staff preceded to cuss me out, threaten me and then call security. Security then kicked me and my children out the park for retaliation purposes. I have attached pictures and video of the things I mention in my review. It's unfortunate that the local public park is treated like the staff's private property and the residents don't get to enjoy the full possibilities that the park supposedly offers. I know that this does not meet the standards that Ras Baraka has for the Newark Residents, their children or the water distribution...

Park is okay. I don't like that people come inside the area where children is playing SMOKING..Also a slide is broken and I don't think it will ever get fixed. Also the rock climbing pegs some are broken off.

UPDATE 8/12/2022 changing review to 5 Stars. They fix the broken slide..the pools and splash pads are open. They had a pool party today and they also set up a boxing ring in the basketball court with chairs etc....DJ..they had a wrestling match etc. Food trucks..bbq..it was cool. Security and cops was at the entrance. People walking around cleaning...

It's okay. It's starting to go into the realm of disrepair for very obvious things, like dirty/broken slides, a broken rim now. I'm certain someone should be occasionally reporting these items during cleaning or weekly/monthly/yearly inspections. During the summer, you can't use the park during the morning hours until maybe 5pm, which isn't...
