What a great time at the Custom House last Saturday from 10-1!! A bouncy house drew my 3 year old grandson in on the back lawn which also had many child appropriate activities. A water table, fishing pond and and air hocket table turned into a sailboat racing river just to name a few!! Some great imagination went into this event which continues on Saturdays until September. The discovery room in the lower floor of the Custom House was open to explore. There you will find pirate gear, a lighthouse you can go in and operate the light and many other sea worthy adventures! Do not miss out on this hidden gem with a friendly staff.

I want to thank (and recognize) the Custom House Maritime Museum in Newburyport, MA, and especially Director Joan Whitlow and Pat Cannon for hosting the Beatrice-Ivey Wedding, June 12, 2021. These folks were more than accommodating and gracious, and the museum grounds is a magical place for a wedding or any event. I encourage you to contact either Joan or Pat for your next event. Simply amazing! Thanks again. Marty Beatrice

FREE admission in the winter!!! 2 floors of 4 rooms filled with various relics, paintings, models, documents & more! Offer a scavenger hunt and boat find page, at least at this time. It made the walk through even more exciting! I wouldn't have noticed at least 1 mural and the last 2 scavenger hunt items were a fun challenge to find!! The building itself is gorgeous with history in every step!

The Custom House Maritime Museum is well worthy of a trip to Newburyport, MA if you are a fan of any of a myriad of special nautically related interests, including: maritime history, boating, boat craft, model ship building, American History, Newburyport History, sailors handicrafts and more. Come to learn, be amazed, and sometimes enjoy viewing your own family history through the artifacts on display. So many of our American ancestors are tied to Atlantic ship crossings, and so much of our economic development stems from laborers' and merchants' work on the waters of the Merrimack and Atlantic. And Museum Membership offers some outstanding perks at a low annual fee. Please inquire. The only caveat to a visit is that the building has no elevators for those who require them to date. - Isa B....

This is a great little museum for history buffs and those who appreciate art and architecture. You can learn about the founding of the Coast Guard, see what life was like for local residents, view historic documents, or attend an informative talk. There's loads of wonderful paintings and ship models, letters and signed proclamations and the building is original too. Kids 5th grade and above would probably enjoy it the more than younger tots. The small shop is also fun, and has items you won't...
