Cashman Park — Attraction in Newburyport

You can drive up to edge of Merrimack River and park and watch boats go by or do some Striper fishing in the evening right next to your car. There is a soccer field and a lighted baseball field, usually some kids playing soccer during the day and adult leagues playing baseball at night. There is a path alongside the river, lots of people waking their dogs. There is also an area set aside for dogs to romp around and play with other dogs off leash, but only if they are well behaved and under your control at all times. At your own risk of course !! There are a few portable toilets scattered about the park, should the need arise. A nice relaxing place to visit in the late afternoons or early evenings during the summer. It can get buggy at times, usually midgies, mosquitos and occasionally the dreaded greenheads in late July for 2 or 3 weeks. So be sure to bring some bug...

Cashman park is great. Free parking ( shhh) wonderful play area for childern bathrooms open seasonally they have a huge dog park people are respectful here and do pick up after there animals for the most part the park has a giant Linden tree that blooms in the spring with a amazing scent and shades half the park with it thick leaves so it cool under it no matter how hot it is. I imagine it's as old as the country and someone famous planted it there.😊😊😊. The rail trail follows though Cashman"s park to the old fire station house (which is a whoot to see) I cross the street there and walk up and down the streets looking at the old homes. Cashman Park is a really great place. The recent renovation has added bathrooms to a great location. Right on the river you can look at boats, watch the bascule bridge operate, watch a ballgame on the fields. Not to mention there is a really nice boat launch to the Merrimack, and the playground, which is also clean, well-maintained and offers excellent shade.
