I make a point to eat at Starboard Galley everytime I visit my family in New England. I've been eating at this restaurant since I was a child growing up in the 70's and absolutely love it. Newburyport is a nice coastal getaway full of great restaurants that New England is famous for. This last visit, I brought a party of 12 people to Starboard Galley for lunch. I ordered the sirloin tips and fried scallops with onion rings and had a Plum Island Punch drink. The restaurant is decked out in typical seaport decor and is located right on the water close to shopping and many other attractions. Staff is very friendly and the food is amazing. Prices are average for the area. Downtown Newburyport is made up of narrow streets and this restaurant is right off the main road heading towards Plum Island. Parking is located out back in a dirt parking lot and normally has plenty of space. Depending on the time of year, getting in and out of the parking lot can be congested and may take some patience dealing with the beach traffic. They have a lighthouse attached to the restaurant which I believe still offers private dining experience last time I checked. Whether you are from the area or in town on vacation, stop by for some really good food in a comfortable seacoast...
Read moreI have been going there for years with my boyfriend. The other night we brought our family. I asked for a Moscow Mule and the waitress asked what I wanted in it. I said Titos would be great, but she said no, like what do you want in it? I said oh, the bartender should know what it is. She came back with a drink in a large glass that tasted like watered down tonic water. Instead of bothering her I went to the bar. I said my drink didn't taste right. He asked what I ordered and I told him, and he started to get snappy. He literally took the drink, rolled his eyes at me, sipped it, shrugged, and dumped it. He proceeded to mumble to himself and made me a new one, meanwhile DOUBLING the vodka in the drink. I wasn't looking for more alcohol, or an attitude, I simply asked for a new one. He placed it in front of me and rolled his eyes again. I said thank you sir and walked away. My mom also got a key lime pie martini (on their specialty menu). It looked like a glass of cream and tasted like really cheap vodka. She asked for a Bud light instead and the waitress brought back a Budweiser.
Pretty off night for Starboard, I hope to go back in the future for a...
Read moreWent there tonight, 5/20/16. Got a nice table in the back of the restaurant, looking out at some water (mostly the parking lot). Ordered the Broiled Scallop "Casserole." The Scallops were cooked right, but apparently they forgot what a casserole is. The scallops came in a "casserole dish" (hence, Scallop Casserole). There was water in the bottom of the dish (from the scallops)...... and that was it! Nothing else in the dish... no crumbs, no browned bits from broiling...... nada , zilch, goose egg! I had to add some butter, some lemon, and a little S&P just to give it some flavor. And it cost $24! Oh yeh, I had a side of overcooked, soggy mixed veggies and rice pilaf, the kind that comes out of a box. And did I mention the two BIG flys hovering around us? I managed to squish one against the window. We were handed the tab, put the credit card down and our waitress never returned (it wasn't that busy). Unfortunately, I took an out of state guest there and I had to apologize to her for choosing such a...
