Alright folks, I’m a former employee of a movie theatre (last day in September 2020). Your complaints on prices? Ticket prices first, cinemas see little back on the money made off of them. Most of it goes back to production companies for ‘allowing’ (remember this it will be talked about again) them to show their films. Snack prices. Yes they are high. Yes employees are aware of this. No they can’t do anything about it. Snacks are high because that is where all the Profit comes from because tickets don’t make much. These profits go to paying bills, letting the theatre run lights water heating so on. Paying employees, they don’t work for free strange as that is huh? So let’s all agree that complaining to employees about it won’t do anything and just stop ok? There is no discount they can give you to change that. Movie selection, out of employee control. Movie selection. That is up to production companies, they choose where movies go. The company has little control over that (they can ask but it’s not a given) they allow companies the privilege to play their stuff. Employees have no say on movie choices or if or when a movie will come. Sorry we get just as disappointed when a movie we wanted to see doesn’t come either. Technical issues. These happen. Everything is nearly ran by computers these days and they are prone to messing up. Smaller theatres don’t have the ability to staff someone being in the projection areas so there isn’t always some up there to catch if there is an issue with a movie. If it starts late, let someone know. Sound isn’t working? Let someone know. Lights are still on? Let someone know. Heaters going out? Happens, your car heater ever stop working? Plumbing issue, your toilet ever need fixing? Power outage, do you get the idea? Just because this is a business does not mean they are not prone to the same kind of sudden unexpected things anyone else may have happen to them. Life happens. The people working their are human. Just be understanding.
For parents and teens: if you want to see a Rated R movie follow guidelines. If you are 17 or over have your state issued ID. No you can’t let your friend in. Or your cousin, sister or brother. No a phone call to your parents won’t work, or FaceTiming. If you want in and don’t have ID you have to have your parent with you. No your parent can’t say your friend can get in. Your friends parent needs to come in. No not uncle. Only LEGAL guardians can let you see movies Rated R. Babysitting doesn’t count as legal...

Cons: Theater is always extremely cold to the point of discomfort, overpriced, typically bad customer service, annoying policies, bad snack selection, outdated, an uncomfortable seats.
I’ll start by saying this is the theater I grew up watching movies at, but it’s my least favorite theatre. After our most recent experience I had to write a review. The customer service is so terrible and I can’t understand how this place has such favorable reviews. We went to watch a movie yesterday and after leaving the freezing theatre we discovered that someone had gotten in to our vehicle. My boyfriend trying to think quick ran in to ask if they had cameras and the lady didn’t acknowledge him because he forgot to put a mask on (which I can understand) but he was distraught and not thinking like he usually does. They then told him that they couldn’t let us see the cameras, which duh… we wanted to know if they did for when we filed a police report, since that seems like something POLICE can probably get access to. Then she said that they didn’t have any cameras in their dark sketchy parking lot. Finally, she told us they weren’t liable for stolen items, which was another huge duh. That’s not even what we were asking for. All he asked was whether they had cameras or not. Zero human compassion and this employee is not the only one with bad customer service.
As for previous experiences, they have this ridiculous policy where they card every single person even if you’re clearly way over 21 and will boot you out if you can’t procure an ID. The funny thing is though, all you have to do is pretend like someone is your parent and they will let you in. It’s an absolute joke, and this is the only theatre I’ve been to that is so hard pressed about this.
This theatre has pretty terrible pricing all around and if you’re going to a movie in winter bundle up because you will be very cold. I’ve never tried to bring a blanket in but when I inevitably attend another movie here I will try to bring one because shivering through a movie you have to pay so much money for is very unpleasant.
Save yourself some stress and go to Corvallis which has two wonderful warm theaters with good...
Read moreLike most theaters, highly overpriced. Maybe if they had not built this so far out of town, making it pretty much inaccessible to anyone under 18, they would have more business and be able to reduce their prices. Charging five dollars for a box of candy you can buy at the dollar store ridiculous! There never seems to be enough staff. But that’s understandable, when you have a lousy business, in an area that is difficult to reach without a vehicle and no business don’t hire a lot of people to do anything. Seriously, Who is big idea was it to build this thing so far out of town? Kids and teens love spending the afternoon in the movies, especially on a windy rainy day which is most of the time in Newport. But you cannot expect tent in children’s to stand out in the pouring down rain to wait for a bus or to cross a major highway to ride that bus. I’m not even sure if the bus is running late enough to pick people up if they watched any of the late night movies, I know the bus does not run late enough to pick up students who get out of the last classes at the community college. It’s not just the theater but it’s the city planners and everyone who did not think of these things when they built the theater and the community college etc. Having the theater in downtown Newport was perfect because children and teens could go there. Of course, there was also a bowling alley within two blocks and the skating rink both of which are now gone so there is pretty much nothing for kids and teens to do in the town of Newport when the weather is bad, which is most of the time. But of course you can purchase marijuana at a dozen different locations in...
