Agate Beach Motel — Hotel in Newport

We usually don't give motels a chance. So glad we listened & took a chance when Agate Beach Motel was recommended by our brother, who is pretty picky about where he stays. I'll begin by saying that the experience on the phone was so helpful. We made same day reservations, which was possible only because of the season. She helped us get the best rate and room with a view. And what a view!!! We woke up to the waves crashing on the beach right in front of us! We arrived after dark, but could smell the ocean & hear the waves as we got out of the car. It was raining, so the carport was especially nice, with a 3 foot walk to the door. They left the light on for us, the heat on & we knew comfort, cleanliness & rest were to be had this night. You won't find a cleaner place. For a price less expensive than any hotel, we had a kitchen, dining & living room area, which included a very comfortable pull out couch with a quality mattress I never knew existed in a sofa. This particular unit only had a shower & I was at first bummed because part of my preparing for bed ritual includes a warm bath. The heater in this bathroom kicks butt! I was toasty warm after about 2 minutes. THE BED. The most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on away from home. Quite possibly even more comfortable than my own. And the sheets were extra soft. After a week of sleeping in finer hotels, this was by far the best night's sleep I had on our trip. The small touches make all the difference. It's a good thing the chocolate mints left on the night stand were no more than 2, or I would have devoured the bag - dang, I forgot to ask what kind they were. The soaps, lotion & hair products are not your typical hotel handouts. They were quality products locally made. The coffee, filters & maker were easy to use & handy. They don't serve breakfast at this price, but if you're frugal, stop at the store & pick up what you need to fix your own in the morning while enjoying the view in the comfort of your own space. You have all you need to do so. We weren't that prepared, but if we had been, we would have missed the great breakfast we had at The Coffee House. We highly recommend that one. I just can't say enough about this gem on the coast. We definitely intend to stay here again. Next time Newport will be our destination!...

We had a wonderful recent stay here! We booked for one night and it was the highlight of our trip down the coast. There is an old school meets new school vibe and the location is absolutely perfect. The woman in the office is the sweetest person and walked us over to our unit and showed us how everything worked. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in the motel! The unit was spotless and cozy with AMAZING views of the ocean. We parked our car right next to the door. The unit had everything we needed, a super comfy bed, and the local coffee was a huge bonus! There is access to the beach from the property, so you are on the sand after a quick walk down. We loved having a deck to sit on and take in the views. You had basically the same view from the living room so you can still enjoy it when it is rainy. There is a fire pit that everyone there can enjoy at the end of the day. We took advantage of it and it was super relaxing. The word thoughtful kept coming to mind as we stayed there and still as we recount the trip, from the check in process to the York peppermint patties on the bedside table. We would absolutely stay here again and cannot recommend it highly enough! And if you do stay here, you should definitely get takeout from Sharks Seafood bar and Steamer and enjoy it at your dining table while looking out...

The staff here are just as good as the view, and it's the best view on the Oregon coast. This place is so far from "corporate" that it feels like family. We stayed in room 3. The rooms and accommodations are homey, but clean. Absolutely LOADED kitchen with anything you could possibly need. Full size refrigerator. Deck and patio with the trail to the beach starting only 30 yards away. And REAL KEYS!!!!! This place is cozy. Warm. Friendly. A community camp fire is lit by the staff every night and smore's ingredients are graciously provided for you. The view is beyond words when it comes to the beach. It's as good as it gets. And to top it all off... After you have stayed with Agate beach one time, you are then considered "family" and you forever receive 10% off all future stays.
