Summary: I stayed here for 10 days for a school related trip at the beginning of January. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, but if you're looking for some place quiet, this isn't it. ||Location: Convenient. 10 minute walk to MASS MoCA, less to some of the local restaurants. Sits directly across from the fire station. ||Floors: The floors were tile, which was fine if you're coming in from the snow/salt (and I suppose if you have pets). However it didn't at all cut down on the noise from the gaggles of loud speaking families returning from the pool at 10pm. All the doors slam shut quickly and the floor amplifies this noise.||Room: Microwave and fridge were convenient, and I appreciated the coffee maker and hair dryer too. Shower looked like it had mildew in some areas. The heater was loud, so I had to use ear plugs in order to sleep. Even so, woke up to the sound of a bobcat clearing the sidewalk a 6am (I was on the 5th floor). View was beautiful.||Amenities: Coffee station in the lobby was a nice touch. Restaurant was closed, so I had to figure out breakfast on my own. ||Laundry facilities were closed the entire time, and nothing was posted or emailed about it prior to arrival (not ideal for a 10 day trip). However, they were willing to direct to the nearest laundromat as an alternative. ||Workout area was small but sufficient (though I was weirded out by the camera in the corner). ||Underground pool was a little scary and towels provided were too small even for a short adult. Pool bathroom/ shower smelled like urine.||Art galleries gave me a welcoming feeling when returning to the hotel every night. ||I noticed a creative nook designed for kids in the lobby. As a parent, I'm sure my kids would have loved that when they were younger. ||Staff: The staff here were very friendly and polite. They were responsive to any questions I had. I needed something printed, and though they didn't have a buisness center, the front desk staff offered to print it for me. ||Overall: this might have been an okay place to stay for a few days during the summer, but not longer than that during winter....
Read moreWonderful two night stay! Nice layout of the hotel. Friendly upbeat staff. Clean bright room with nice views of North Adams. Many quality restaurants are close by. Close to MASS MoCA and the Clark Art Institute. Scenic views and hiking trails on Mount Greylock are easy to explore. We will be back to stay here often.
Another wonderful stay at Hotel Downstreet. We took advantage of their early check in and late checkout promotion. It gave us more time to explore the many museums in the area and again visit Mount Greylock. The views from the hotel of the surrounding buildings and mountains are enhanced by the fall colors just starting to peek out. It was another great experience with the linens the hotel has recently upgraded. They were the smoothest sheets and made for a really good night’s rest. When I inquired about the linens the front desk investigated the source of their recent upgrade. The final morning the friendly front desk staff member told me she was going to be finding out about the linens from the General Manager, who had been out of the office for the last few days and would email the information.
One last hydrotherapy hot tub/cool pool before the drive back to the Catskills. That few days of early morning and early evening soaks were enough to help an old man feel young again. Speaking of young and swimming, I watched a pool instructor who was teaching safety and water introductions to toddlers. It was nice to see that the Hotel Downstreet makes their pool available in this, community spirited way. Bravo! On final checkout the GM Janine was coordinating a cool car rally in the parking lot, open to the community too. She was appreciative of our questions about her source for the linens and revealed them to us. With so many things to do in the area we...
Read moreI am rating 1 star because of customer service. I had booked my stay a month in advance based on a rate that was offered that had unclear terms, with no real descriptions of what it meant. Yet is was available to book nonetheless. On our way to the hotel, which is 3 hours away from our home, they call us at 4:30 (already after check in time, mind you.) They told us the rate we booked was not applicable to us and they would be charging us a different, higher rate. I politely argued the fact that it was unacceptable to tell us this the day of arrival, and after check in time, and that what I had booked should not have been available as an option to me if they would not honor it. They then told us that the final decision of the "manager" (who was not available to discuss the matter) was that we would have to pay it. I was also told that we were not the only ones that this happened to, which tells me that this is in fact a hotel problem that needs to be corrected. They also suggested that we could cancel the reservation and stay at a different hotel. Which was really just a "joke's on me" because it was a holiday weekend, and where am I going to find a decent last minute hotel room, not that we wanted to continue to drive with two young children in the car. We ended up paying the additional charges because of this, however we will never be back to this hotel based on the unprofessional way they decided to run their business. They should own their problem, take the loss and fix their issues. For a new hotel, they should really strive for customer satisfaction, especially in the event of their own issues. There are other nice hotels in the area to choose from. I'll stay at the alternate 3 star hotel in the...
