When my spouse and I adopted our dog we knew instantly that he had to be a part of our family due to his tender and warm nature. To me, a “meet and greet” is done to understand a dog’s demeanor and to grasp what environment would be best for him. After attending “Dogtopia’s” “meet and greet,” we received the only feedback that he was a “good boy” which now raises a red flag.
We were given late access to the live webcam due to issues with my spouse’s email address even though we documented and provided the same email address several times with staff. All account information was inaccurate including our dog’s birthday and emergency contacts which brings the question, why ask if you don’t care?
When we finally did have access to the webcam, we saw our dog being harassed by 4 dogs (jumped, bumped, surrounded etc nonstop for 20 mins) We understand that dogs have a pack mentality, but when a dominant/submissive pack mentality among dogs goes unchecked, it can result in injury or death to a dog. Staff intervened minimally and allowed for the behavior to basically continue.
Our dog was alone and he showed clear signs of distress and anxiety (tongue out and completely to the side of his mouth, afraid to move and in the sitting position (fear of being humped, bullied etc ). What killed me was him yipping and looking for rescue from one of the 2 handlers with little intervention. They could have crated our dog or the others to create separation.
It was upsetting looking at the video as it was happening because it was clear that our dog was in a fight-or-flight situation. Our dog was a rescue and a very timid dog in a situation with multiple dogs attempting to assert dominance which can lead to a dangerous situation. Watching the video I instantly understood how a timid dog could turn into a viscous dog trying to defend itself and failing.
The company states that your dog will be treated like family which is why we in-trusted our dog to this doggie daycare. The dogs were not the problem. It was the lack of intervention and distress in our dog’s demeanor that raised alarm. It only took 20 mins to see that staff did not care about the wellbeing of our dog. I was at work and my spouse was just returning home when we gained access and viewed the cameras. As soon as I saw what was happening I called my spouse and he was already on his way to pick him up because he had viewed the same thing that I had.
Our dog was mistreated, misgendered and dismissed without a thought to his wellbeing. They tried to assure us that this behavior was normal. We do not fault the dogs but the humans that were in the care of these dogs. Our dog was clearly looking for help and it was painful to watch this unfold until my spouse was finally able to rescue him that nightmare.
We received no acknowledgment/ apology for what happened in the video. They tried downplaying what went on in the video. We requested for the regional manager to view the video but we will see how far that goes.
I am just thankful for what we saw on the live webcam because I know for sure if we did not look or care about viewing the cameras that we would slowly but surely come home with a different dog. A timid dog in a situation like this with inexperienced staff will result in a dog that is leary of other dogs, distrustful of humans or worst case on the defensive and violent towards humans and other animals.

Read moreJust had a very frustrating experience with Dogtopia in North Attleboro. We recently adopted a 4 month old dog and were excited to get him into a day care a few days a week to socialize him. I booked a meet and greet online, got all his paperwork in, arrived at the meet and greet and were told they could not have him in as we hadn't owned him for a month. I have no issue with this rule, however, this was no where on the website or any of the forms I filled out. They also could have easily called to ask me this question before my husband and I wasted time driving to the appointment with our dog. I found the staff member to be rude about the whole situation instead of understanding. We will not be taking him back despite the...
Read moreDogtopia is AMAZING! Everyone is so personable and truly cares about the dog. They work with you on any issues your dog may have (mine, for example sometimes has allergies and can't always keep up with play - they let her have extra crate time to relax). They also escalate any issues they think your dog has, no matter how minor, to make sure your pup is okay. Dogtopia does fun events for dogs, including themed days with photos or treats! My dog has come so far since being here - she's lost weight, learned how to play with other dogs, and has just come into her own. She's come far from being an elderly companion...
