This gym has mostly good and some bad. The Good: For a small gym, it has a very diverse selection of equipment, including more advanced machines. A lot of the equipment is old but in good working condition. No complaints there. I think it's more than enough for beginner and intermediate lifters. As a result, it's pretty cramped, but this is generally not a problem. You'll likely need to move seats and benches around a good amount, so maybe not for everyone. Owners are very nice and professional. I also understand that they're working with an old building, maybe a difficult HOA as well, so they're doing a bang-up job all things considered. Wonderful view out the front. If you do a lot of cardio/circuit training, this might be gym heaven for you. If you live on the island or nearby and want to lift weights, the location can't be beat! It's a bit more expensive than one of the big chains (unless you live in the building, in which case you get a discount), but I'd still rather pay the higher price for the short commute. Month to month only, no gimmicks, no BS about having to cancel your subscription 60 days ahead of when you want to. Pretty refreshing policy. No ads or pressure to use one of their personal trainers.
The Bad, : There are a list of rules posted in a few places. Very few of them are followed. It doesn't look like the owners enforce any of them (except maybe the one about plants). I spend about 20% of my workout on average unloading plates that people left on machines or trying to track down dumbells I need. At least half of the patrons seem to have been raised by mothers that cleaned up all of their messes for them. When plates are on a weight rack, they're always mixed together. I've worked out at gyms all over the world; this is by far the worst in regards to cleanup. Owners are there most of the work day and don't seem to care. Maybe this is a Miami thing? I don't mind a bit of talking, or trainers giving students instructions, but it's pretty bad here. People catching up on gossip, flirting, answering the phone and having 20 minute conversations in between sets in the middle of the room with machines, all loud enough to drown out the music so they can be heard. I was in there today, and some guy seemed to think the horizontal bench was the stage for America's Got Talent. William Hung would've been proud of how out of tune he was. Again, owners don't seem to care. Really makes it difficult to stay in the zone.
The bad parts are few, but they're pretty bad. Not bad enough to beat how close this gym is to my home though. 🤷♂️ But why have the rules if they're not going to...
Read moreOkay gym. The machines are fine when they work. If broken, owners just put yellow tape on it and hope for the best without changing anything (like the stair master or leg abductors, which are chronically undergoing maintenance). AC never works, so come earlier to avoid the heat coming in through the windows. Be aware of ur surroundings if you don’t want the misbehaved “dog” attacking you. I had transferred an account from a family member MONTHS ago, and was rudely kicked out when I couldn’t answer invasive questions on the spot. Rude owners and the gym is never clean. Floods easy, so you cant use cardio machines all on that floor. The view is the best part and location is...
