I have been wanting to have my hair loc'd for the last 2-3 years, and I did my fair share of research on the internet about different ways of approaching the matter, talked to various friends and family who have their hair loc'd, and tried a couple of different products after watching a few youtube videos smh.. I first Grew my hair out for 2-3 months and started my dread journey with the Nu Dread Sponge... Although this sponge did manage to get my hair to dread, it wasn't as neat, and clean as i needed them, or wanted them to be. I wanted my dreads to all be even, look clean, and also be manageable. Well suffice to say I ended up giving up on the Nu Dread sponge, and decided to seek guidance from someone who had years of knowledge when it comes to loc's. I started first by asking anyone i saw who's hair was loc'd, how they did them, or who helped them, and the name that I kept hearing was of a lady called Sarah. I ended up doing a Google search for "loctician in Cincinnati", and what do you know, her web page was the first page listed! I was thinking to myself... "This must be a sign?" After clicking on the Link to the web page the first thing that I noticed, was how professional the web page looked. This was a good sign, because I figured if she puts this much effort into her website and business, she must care about her customers as well.
I then decided to give her a call, and the first thing I noticed was how easy she was to talk too on the phone. Immediately I felt relaxed, as if I had known her for years. By this time my hair had been growing for about 3-4 months so I was rather anxious to have something.. anything... done to my hair. Too my surprise she said that although she had a pretty busy schedule she would fit me in tomorrow at noon.
When i walked through the doors I felt very comfortable. I was greeted by a warm smile and a great spirit. I then asked if she was the person who is known as the Loc Dr. and she greeted me with a smile and said yes. Since I am a male, and I have never had my hair done at a salon i wanted to know what she would be using in my hair, and general questions about upkeep. She was very thorough with her extensive knowledge when it comes to loc'ing, which also put me even more at ease. I then had my hair washed and shampooed, after washing i sat under the dryer, then the twisting began...
Sitting down in the seat, I was anxious, and a little nervous, because I had an idea about how I wanted them to look, but wasn't sure if they would come out the way I envisioned. Well, lets just say after 1 hour of sitting in the chair, my hair was fully twisted, looked amazing, and my journey had started. I must say that there is a feeling I had looking at the new me! It felt good, and also refreshing! She then told me when i would need to come back, and also if I had any hair emergency situation, to not hesitate to give her a call. I then thanked her, and felt like a new man as I proceeded to walk out of the door.
Oh yeah... The atmosphere was very chill, and relaxing with good music playing in the background, and intellectual conversation with fine women.. you can't beat it. So if anyone, especially men out there who want to start there Loc Journey, don't hesitate to give Sarah "The Loc Dr." a call.
Trust me... She has a PHD in her craft.
A Happy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I first pulled up I was very confused because it seemed like the outside of the business looks abandoned and not taken care of. I saw another customer walk in ahead of me so i assumed they were open and walked in. After all I did call and have an appointment booked at 12p. After walking in I was shocked at what the inside of the establisment looked like. It was dirty, unkept and looked like the floors hadnt been swept for months. When I walked in there were multiple people sitting there and no one said hello for almost 3-5 mins. I took a seat after a customer had informed me that is what I was supposed to do. The lady eventually shouted from the back. "you here for eyebrows?!" I said "yes, I have an appt at 12p. She said that she would be there shortly. (It was 11:55) To my surprise the lady that walked in 2 mins before me was being seated to get her eyelashes done at 12p as well. I was confused as to why they would schedule me at the same time. The owner took her time frequently walking away to answer the phone or to have a conversation with other employees/friends. The shop was like a hangout. There were friends, children, and employees all just sitting around and talking. Not to mention the kids were throwing things around the shop and would not leave me alone by untying my shoes. Not even the parents (the parents were also employees of the shop) stepped in as I tried to get them to leave me alone. They just laughed it off. It was completely unprofessional. at that point I should have up and left however I was looking forward to this service because I have had it done in the past somewhere else and really liked the results. As I waited, i became increasing more upset because Sarah, the owner did not call me back to the chair until 1:15!!! Keep in mind I did not leave until 2:30p (2hrs and 45 mins I was there) After an hour and a half I was just glad the process could get underway. After I sat in the chair (which felt like it would break at any moment) I became more annoyed because she continued to get up, answer her phone, and even make travel arrangments to go to NYC the following day. After applying a few lashes the client that was complete before me walked in because part of her eyelashes fell off. So once again she asked me to get out of the chair and continue to wait until she fixed the prior clients job. I was speechless and that part of the experience wasnt even the worst part. The work itself was absolutely ridiculous. The lashed touched the top of my eyelids and were up to my eyebrows. I asked if they could be cut to look more natural and she insisted that they looked fine. At this point I was over this situation and just wanted to get out of the shop. I never could imagine that such a horrible service could be performed and that the owner was proud of that work. I think that groupon should do everything in their power to take this groupon off the website and should investigate the look, feel, and quality of work before they offer a companies service. With groupon being such a reputable name I would hope that this standard would be in place so loyal customers like myself do not question making continual purchases after having such a horrible experience like this one. I took plenty of pictures if anyone would like to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorst experience I have ever had with a loctician!!!
After moving to Cincinnati I was very skeptical about finding a new loctician. After going online and seeing all of the reviews for this solan I was impressed. Sarah was nice friendly but completely overbooked herself. She kept allowing people to come although she knew she was completely packed one of her customers actually washed my hair. I did not think it was a huge deal. It was a very religious atmosphere which I did not like with a Hebrew isrealite movie playing but still I was like these are nice people so I was not that concerned. She charge me 150 to latched my hair and I had about 2inches of new growth and my locs are small so I decided it was ok because my expected due date to have my baby is a couple weeks away and I wanted something done ASAP. Once she was done I didnāt really look through my hair seeing I was there for almost 5 hours and 5 people were waiting to get to her chair some who were there before me. Once I got home I realized she did not complete my hair. She Interloced maybe a half of a inch leaving 1 1/2 of loose hair between the locks. I couldnāt believe it. How unprofessional it was. I never experienced anything like that. Imagine going to Pizza Hut and ordering a large and only 3 slices are there. I called to let her know once I got home and to reschedule so that she could finish what she started. She seemed unconcerned and said I should come on Wednesday but after experiencing her wait time I told her that I will call her to get a more specific time because I knew she was very busy at the moment. When I called back she didnāt answer and I called again and a man answered. I told him what we discussed and he kept pausing as if she was talking to him in the background and said they will not be opened on Wednesday and after pressuring him for another day he said Thursday at 2 I knew something didnāt seem right so I told him to have her call me and Iām still waiting. This the worst experience I ever had at a shop and I love supporting black businesses but she is completely unprofessional hiding behind a nice sweet persona to mask her lack of integrity and corrupt spirit. Do NOT COME HERE!!! She will overcharge, overbook and provide under quality services... and by the way most of these reviews are probably members of her Hebrew isrealite community. The lady hair she completely before me did not look professional at all. I shouldāve left then but I wanted to give her the benefit of...
