This is THE STATE FAIR. Did you see that much advertisement? No!,!!!!!! The Royal Oak “Arts, Beats and Eats” does way more advertising. This is a problem because this is our State Fair. This year, again I went on Senior Day. Not much advertising on the fact that we get in “free”. I spoke with a few other seniors who paid full price—-they were mad. Also, where was any mention about veterans? Poor planning. The food has been a major disappointment. We have a lot of restaurants near by. Where were any? We would like better choices of food other than junk food. I will give Suburban Collection Showplace credit for how nice it was laid out. Since their new addition, everyone can get around much nicer. The food trucks were laid out in an orderly fashion. I normally go and speak with the farmers which is why I normally go to see the animals. There were chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, cows, pigs, hogs and a few horses. They’re lacking in signs around the animals to inform you as to the breeds. When you don’t inform, you miss out on enjoyment of the fair. Also, there is a great need of signs for the tables that show various objects that are judged and given ribbons. It look like a vast area without any idea of what the ribbons meant, age groups, categories or what they represent. This was major disrespect to the individuals to provided their entries. Next come the agriculture. No signs of any kind. How many people know the different varieties of vegetables? I cannot believe more effort is not put into these areas. My last remark goes to the “volunteers”. They are no where to be found and when you do find some, they are normally just chatting among themselves and cannot provide any information. They do not have a clue. I think their only reason is to get in free. Please provide training before people...
Read moreI've been to plenty of conventions here and always enjoy this venue; mostly Motor City Comic Con and the sewing expo. I will say, for comic con, it's a bit small for how large their attendance has grown and at times can be claustrophobic walking through the main show room. That's not the venues fault though. The venue staff / volunteers that run these shows are amazing. Even with comic cons huge crowd, everyone is on top of it, including the people working the parking lot.
Which, heads up if you're driving here. The traffic is God awful for things like comic con. Because it's already in a busy area, there will be a like trailing down the street / main roads just to get into the parking lot. And you can be stuck there for half an hour or so. Not the venues fault again, but keep that in mind when attending a con here.
Big shout out to the one security guard that humored us and played along in our photoshoot many moons ago during MCCC. You were awesome!
There's a hotel attached to the showplace, which is incredibly hard to book for these things because it sells out quick, but it seems like it'd be nice and convenient. There's a bar inside the venue too that has outdoor and inside seating. The drinks are overpriced, but having that option is very great. The conference rooms aren't huge but large enough that they can fit everyone for major guests.
If you're into cosplay, there's a lot of great photoshoot opportunities; there's a loading dock out back, great as an industrial setting, so long you ask permission. There's also a few ponds in front of the center.
I haven't been here since 2019, so maybe things have changed a bit, but I'll always have fond memories of the...
Read moreThe recent shooting of two young teenage boys in the parking lot on the weekend the state fair was held where the shooter was allowed to drive off Scott free and too this day still hasn't been arrested (because The Suburban Collection Showplace has no cameras in the parking lots?) proves two things....#1 This isn't a safe venue to hold large scale events at #2 The Novi Police Department needs to reevaluate how and WHERE it utilizes it's police force. Might be wise to spend less time writing speeding tickets and spend more time doing actual police work and keeping community members safe from "Detroit Gunslingers" as we all pay these incredibly high taxes to live out here so we don't have to worry about things like being shot while attending family orientated events at places like this. We saw only TWO POLICE OFFICERS the entire 4 hours my family was on the fair grounds the day of the shooting. No wonder the shooter got away and won't ever be held accountable for his crimes. In 2024 where cameras are everywhere, this is completely unacceptable. I hope the families of the two children that were shot in the parking lot sue The Suburban Collection Showplace for their losses. My condolences...
