5/5 stars! If you’re looking to do a honey bee hive/ farm tour this is THE BEST on the island! 🐝🍯🌺🌴🌱🪴🌈🩵🤟 Katie was super friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and kind. Very aloha spirit. She taught us all about her hives. The meaning of Hanai (adopted). Told us all about the local flora and fauna. It was just my husband and I, and when you book ahead keeps it just your private group so you get tons of one on one convo and hands on experience! We got to see into the hives! Sooo cool. She provided everything we needed for safety with suits gloves and face coverings. We even were lucky enough to find the queen in one hive! The tour ended with a honey tasting and wonderful snacks. She has a wonderful pup who joined us around the farm. This is a good non strenuous activity to do on the north shore. Took a couple of hours max. Parking was easy and Katie gives you all directions. We bought some honey to take home. It was excellent and delicious. They even have some naturally flavour infused honey options too! The only thing I would mention (like everywhere) is in some shaded areas there are mosquitos, so stand in the sun to avoid them or wear long sleeves and long pants. It wouldn’t be too hot in the bee suit! Don’t wear bug spray or perfume. She taught us bees are very sensitive to those smells and it can impact their behaviour!

Katie was kind enough to take our picture and I got some cool videos too!

Can’t recommend Katie and Hanai hives enough! I would definitely return for...

My mom and I had the most wonderful time visiting Hānai Hives!! 🥰Katie is such a kind and caring person!! She made us feel very welcome and it was so special to get to visit and learn about her work and see bees in person!! 😊My mom usually uses a wheelchair, and Katie drove us around in their golf cart so we could get the full experience. She was very accommodating and was very thorough in answering all of our questions! The property is full of many different fruiting trees and the bees look very happy and well taken care of - you can tell that they are very comfortable around Katie. Katie is very attentive to the bees and you can tell how much she loves them. The bees looked so happy and cute as they calmly went about their business in their hives! ❤️ Katie didn't rush us along and was very caring towards us as well - helping us in and out of the wheelchair. Katie also has beautiful dogs and we got to meet one of them - my mom really enjoyed playing with him! Thank you again Katie so much for the wonderful experience!! I highly recommend visiting here - the honey tastes wonderful and the people are just amazing!!!❤️❤️❤️(We got to see bee eggs and also a bee hatching!! We also saw drones and a queen bee 🥰 In one of the photos, you can see the bee eggs. Also, a cute photo of Katie hugging her dog!!😊) The honey was very reasonably priced and I got a cute shirt (the design is made by her daughter! So talented!!)💖 There are both adult and kids shirt...

We are beyond grateful to Hānai Hives for welcoming us into their Ohana and guiding us on our journey to becoming full-fledged beekeepers. The experience has been nothing short of transformative. The team at Hānai Hives is knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly passionate about bees and their vital role in our ecosystem.

Not only did they teach us, but they also instilled a sense of confidence in our two young boys. Thanks to the hands-on training and expert instruction, our boys now feel assured that their beekeeping skills can match those of any adult. Seeing their excitement and pride as they work with the bees is truly heartwarming.

Through Hānai Hives, our love for bees has blossomed into a deep commitment to their care and preservation. The Hānai Hives community embodies a spirit of cooperation and support, making us feel like part of a family from day one.

Now, with our newfound skills and enthusiasm, we are excited to share our love for bees with the world. Mahalo, Hānai Hives, for this incredible opportunity and for fostering a true appreciation for these amazing creatures. We look forward to continuing our beekeeping journey and spreading the buzz about Hānai Hives!

As a beginner beekeeper, there are so many classes, books, videos, and lectures to choose from. My family hosts a hive at Katie’s apiary for almost a year, and nothing beats learning about bees and beekeeping than actually being in the hive and surrounded by bees. Introducing my 2 little ones to bees and entomology is a bonus! Katie is engaging with beekeepers of all ages and even accommodates to children with special needs. She is not only an incredible beekeeper, but she’s also an educator and teaches about, science, health, and nutrition of honeybees. Hanai Hives also teaches children about nature and preservation with her 100 different species of plant life surrounding her colorful and whimsical hives. The most exciting part for me and my family was our first experience of seeing a frame full of bees and honey. She called them fairies, and I called them puppies. My son thought of his favorite cartoon of tanks, but the experience was so beautiful that it allowed us to all carve out our own artistic and creative strengths. Beekeeping at Hanai Hives is also good exercise and a great way to step outdoors and enjoy nature with the family safely.
