I went up to the pipe Masters Pro two days in a row. The first day the waves were too small for competition. The next day, the waves were too large and dangerous for the pros to surf on. Even though the competition did not go on, I was able to land my favorite spot up by the Lifeguard stand. Partially in the shade of a palm tree and partially in the Sun, the sound of the waves put me right to sleep. Of course, it was 6:15 in the morning. It is such a beautiful place. If you're planning to go up for a surfing competition, get up there early. The parking is limited. On the weekends there isn't much in the way of food that is available, however, Foodland is down the road about 2 mi. I left at 5:30 a.m. and I was lucky it wasn't too crowded at that time. There is parking across the street at the elementary school on the weekends. There are bathroom and shower facilities, but during surf season it is highly recommended that you do not Venture near the water because the surf is extremely dangerous. I was walking in about 2 in of water when a rogue wave hit me and I went tumbling head-over-heels. I was wearing a sarong and the force is a wave literally ripped it into shreds. I caution anyone who goes up there to pay attention to the warnings that are posted. If you are not a professional swimmer, do not go near the water. Additionally, never turn your back to the ocean. The first time you do, a rogue wave might get you. It is such a beautiful place that some people forget how dangerous it is during the winter months. If you haven't visited Sunset Beach, please do! It is...
Read moreSunset Beach is nothing short of spectacular. We chose to end our day here with one goal in mind – to watch the sunset – and boy, was it worth it.
As the sun began its descent, we found ourselves surrounded by others who had the same idea. Sunset Beach quickly transforms into a bustling spot as the sun’s warm hues start to paint the sky. Fortunately, finding parking wasn’t a major challenge for us, although it might depend on the day and time.
We parked in an area within a park that conveniently offered restrooms. This spot was right across the street from the beach, making it incredibly convenient. On the beach itself, I noticed that lifeguards were on duty, which adds an extra layer of safety, always a plus.
One thing to note is that there isn’t much natural shade on the beach, so it’s essential to bring a sturdy umbrella for relief from the sun. However, it’s the sunsets at Sunset Beach that steal the show. The views here are absolutely breathtaking, and I have zero regrets about choosing this spot to conclude our day. It was, without a doubt, a magical moment that I’ll...
Read moreThis beach is absolutely GORGEOUS. I think this was my favourite place from our Oahu trip. The water along the entire North Shore is amazing to look at but this beach just enhanced it somehow. This place is also easy to spot along the Kamehameha Hwy and has actual parking spots! You’ll know that you’re there when you see a ton of cars and tour buses parked along the road ;)
There were a lot of people here but I was still able to get pictures with only a few people in the background, yay. The water is beautiful and nice to hang out in, and the sand is also clean and nice to take a nap on (or just enjoy the view). Like others have mentioned, it’s pretty close to the shrimp trucks so you can come before or after eating there. While I’m sure seeing the sunset here would be absolutely breathtaking, the beach is more than enjoyable...
