Oct 2022. We booked our stay through Ola Properties and stayed at Ko Olina Beach Villas, unit 402, and it was a dump! The bad reviews start in 2013 in the guest book that nobody but disappointed travelers read and comment in. I knew the building was getting a paint job so I specifically asked for a unit that wasn't being worked on. We show up to scaffolding and people working on all three of our bedroom windows. Workers grinding on the metal frames and so much dust in our bedroom we had to ask for new bedding.
All the furniture needs to go into the dumpster. The couch pillows are brown with dirt, the veneer on the dining and coffee tables are peeling. All the cushions have lost their oomph.
The kitchen wasn't well stocked. No cutting board, coffee filters, sharp knives, silverware for more than one meal. Teflon pots and pans were all scratched. No mixing bowls or scissors...the list goes on and on...and all those groceries you bring to the unit have nowhere to go because the pantry is filled with a big AC unit. Speaking of AC...the living room we could cool down, but all 3 bedrooms were hot at night. No overhead fan in the bedrooms and only 1 box fan to share.
3 of the 4 TV's didn't work. I texted and called Ola Properties. I ended up leaving a message for maintenance and no one ever called or texted me back.
Even though our unit slept 6 there wasn't anywhere comfortable to seat all 6 of us. We kept dragging the indoor chairs to the lanai to sit together.
You only get a "starter" pack when you arrive??? So we spend over $6000 to stay and they only give you 6 garbage bags, 2 rolls of tp per bathroom and one towel per person??? If you run out then you have to buy your own. Dumb!!!
We were constantly doing laundry. Washer only held 3 towels and the dryer doesn't vent outside, it vents in the unit so it would get real warm and it took several cycles to dry anything.
Cockroaches in the kitchen and hallway. They like the rice cooker and anything you leave on the counter...which is all your food because there's no pantry.
The 5 star reviews for Ola Properties are all 2 years old or older. Sounds like it's another corporation that puts profits over people and good service. Shame on them! This trip was my 50th birthday gift to myself and it was a huge disappointment to stay in that unit.
The Ko Olina Beach Resort itself gets 5 stars. Beautiful grounds and pool areas. Very clean and well maintained. I would stay there again if I didn't have to stay in that unit or deal with...
Read moreWe spent half of our trip in Waikiki and the other half in Makaha at the Hawaiian princess. Was a much needed change of pace. The traffic was horrible in Waikiki and there was none in Makaha. The condo was ok. Definitely in need of updating but felt very safe as the parking lot is gated and you need a fob to access all doors/elevators. Could have been cleaner… dropped a sock under the dresser and once pulled out, was covered in dust and a pill from a previous renter. There are miles of homeless camps along the beaches in Makaha but we were never approached by anyone and everyone is super friendly. There’s a great food truck just down the road from the condo called da Brazilian Braddahs, highly recommend!!! The beach in front of the condo must have recently experienced some extreme erosion as there is barely a beach and a Little Rock cliff to the water with very rough surf but a short walk over to the next condos beach and you can access the water. But I didn’t come to Hawaii for the beach!!! In makaha make sure you hit up all the local hikes! Kaena point is a flat hike but so cool, lots of little tide pools to check out and cool off in. Mā’ili pillbox is a short hike with great views! We tackled mount kaala which was extremely challenging but amazing! Trailhead is only 15 min from the condo. We also did makua cave, upper and lower, very beautiful and was the Only hike out of 9 that we never saw another person. We did the paradise cove luau during our stay here as well which was about 20 min from the condo, highly recommend! Also the condo has epic sunset views!!! There is a little homeless camp to the left of the condo below the little hill which kept us from doing that short little hike but others did. Sounds like a lot of negatives but I would still recommend staying here if you will be doing the local hikes, I just wouldn’t stay here for your whole stay but def nice to get away from the busy...
Read moreKai Lani is our favorite place to stay on Oahu, and this is our second stay with Ola properties. The Ko Olina area is beautiful, and has several great beaches we love. Nearby Kapolei offers plenty of shopping and affordable restaurants. Kai Lani, Apt 2b is where we stayed. It is a nice condo, and had all of the necessary conveniences provided , including bedding, bathroom towels, kitchen utensils, for our stay. The bathrooms are clean and have been recently renovated, the beds are comfortable, and having the pool directly behind the unit was a real plus. Our only issues were the couch cushions are a bit worn and saggy, making seating in the living room a bit uncomfortable, and some of the blinds have broken slats, that have temporary (cardboard) repairs made, and (some) blinds could not be opened or closed. These things did not detract from our great stay, and should be easy fixes if the owner is willing. To be fair we didn’t notify the Ola management company of the noted (minor) concerns, as didn’t want our vacation stay interrupted, and we felt the overall condition of the property was good enough. Regarding the Ola property management concierge, Jason, we found him to be very kind and helpful, quickly responding to any questions, needs or concerns...
