De Fremery Park — Attraction in Oakland

I'm 67 and I grew up in this park. I saw JFK there..1959 or 60. I lived on myrtle and attended Lafayette. When I was younger 3 and 4 Blk families would meet at this park for the holidays.. Everyone was from Louisiana. Today my knees are bad..when I was a kid there was this thing that we would run around pushing it and jump on it..it had to be 50 kids that thing helped ruin my knees..lol in the summer we were there everyday. My siblings and I walked from 31st and Market that was North Oakland to West Oakland When I was 15 my Mom bought a home across the street from Mosswood. I was too old for parks but my younger siblings grew up in Mosswood. I hate the Panthers destroyed Oakland they brought violence and next there was crack. I will always love Defremry..oh we couldn't go to Lake Merritt in the 50's...

I'm 71 and I played in this park until I was 14. When I was 6 and older there was this thing that kids would hold on to run real fast and jump on it. I would swear it was 50 kids or more...this was in the 50's and early 60's. My siblings and I would go swimming and our great uncle would be near the men at the picnic tables taking a shot and giving us change for the snow cone truck. At 15 no more parks for me and my family lived on 37th and Webster across from Moss wood. I will always love this park . precious family memories. The baseball field is gone. Today so many White People at the Park. When I was growing up all Black hard working folks. Our visit today was for Patricia Lowe..Queen of...

Defermery Park has been around since forever for a lot of ppl it's the neighborhood park but over but over the years they have built a skateboard ramp and people come from all over to use the skateboard ramp play basketball on the basketball court and they play soccer on the baseball field people can just bring their kids to play here they also have a big house where the kids play recreational games eat lunch the offer summer programs for the kids they also have different things going on in the big house where you can rent the space of you...
